Technical Data Analyst - Consumer Data & Analysis - 895327

Many businesses are data driven, but perhaps none so much as Microsoft.   A great deal of effort is spent on using masses of data to understand user behaviors to inform and improve upon Microsoft’s products and marketing efforts.

We are the Consumer Data and Analytics team focused on advanced data mining and data capabilities impacting Microsoft’s consumer product and marketing efforts. We are looking for an experienced Technical Data Analyst who is passionate to work with and analyze big data to drive insights across complex business questions. We have petabytes of data being collected and we convert data into insights, and drive enhanced customer experience and improved business performance by enabling data-driven decisions.  

Job Description:

The ideal candidate should be self-directed, passionate about data, and focused on delivering the right results. The candidate should be able to apply programming acumen and a breadth of tools, data sources and analytical techniques to answer a wide range of high-impact business questions and present the insights in a concise and effective manner. Technical aptitude and programming skills are necessary in this role. The candidate should also be an effective communicator capable of independently driving issues to resolution and communicating insights to both technical and non-technical audiences. The role requires incubating, developing, testing and iteratively improving on BI capabilities to understand the product(s) in depth so as to provide key insights to shape product and marketing actions, thereby improving customer experience and usage of the product(s).

Core Responsibilities:

  Build a holistic understanding of our product features, its customer, the BI data infrastructure & environment, and business goals

  Develop powerful visualization on customer behavior and usage and become SMEs for the product(s)

  Analyze and validate data using statistical tools to answer product and business questions, to drive product and marketing actions

  Build and maintain Learning Plans for the product(s) with key analytical questions to address and investigations on data quality

  Interface with business users and engineering teams to bridge the gap in terms of data needs and business term/logic understanding  

  Leverage industry best practices in establishing repeatable BI practices, principles & processes

  Leverage team members across BI, for data & analysis needs

  Refine, improve and centralize team capabilities and share to the broader business and analytical community

  Manage external vendor relationships onshore & offshore, as needed

Key Skills, Competencies, Qualifications:

  Unique mix of technical, development, project and program management skills

  Ability to understand, translate and map business and product questions into analyses projects

  Expertise in database technology with solid understanding SQL Server, solid understanding of SSIS, solid understanding of SSAS / n-dimensional cubes

  Experience in analyzing big data using statistical tools such as SQL, C# and statistics

  Experience with unstructured datasets (Hadoop and/or Cosmos)

  Solid experience building business intelligence solutions (data warehouse, datamart, ETL, Reports, Powerpivots) and ability to understand instrumentation and devise technical solutions

  Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (e.g., creating formulas, pivot tables) and PowerBI

  Knowledge of SAS, SPSS, Tableau, Adobe Insights or similar analytic software

  Strong business acumen

  Excellent collaborative skills, consultative and customer-facing skills, strong client services orientation

  Ability to influence diverse audiences and build strong partnerships with stakeholders

  Strong ability to articulate vision, requirements & benefits, providing a solid rationale to multiple business and technical partners

  Self-motivated, agile and driven to think out-of-the-box on key

5-8+ years relevant experience; College degree required, MSc/MA/MBA preferred

Summary

The IT Business Analyst will be responsible for requirements gathering, business analysis, documentation, project planning, and communication of business unit technology and business process initiatives. You will be responsible for the full life cycle of projects and initiatives from conception to post-adoption. Qualifications

6 years working experience in business analysis and project management in a demanding environment. 3-5 years' experience translating business needs into functional business requirements. SDLC experience (Software Development Life Cycle) Strong experience with Visio, Project, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and similar software. Strong understanding of automated testing, requirements analysis, and process model tool. Prior experience in a development or data analyst role;Must have strong data analysis skills, along with the capability to present data and results in clear, concise manner. Knowledge of the Opportunity to Invoice sales cycle/Order Mgmt life cycle a plus. Oracle experience is a plus - not required Excellent time management skills and organization skills; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events Must have strong critical thinking and analytical skills in order to solve complex problems. Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as delivery skills for business timelines and presentations Must have the ability to learn quickly and comprehend many technical and business concepts. Effective customer service skills; able to work in a team-oriented environment, manage competing demands, resolve conflict(s), change approach or method to best fit the situations.
