POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Program Officer I
DEPARTMENT: Volunteer Technical Assistance Unit
LOCATION: Arlington, VA or Little Rock, AR
REPORTS TO: Senior Program Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Officer will support management of the Farmer to Farmer program in West Africa and contribute to tasks related to program development/new business.

ESSENTIAL REPONSIBILITIES:

Support management of Farmer to Farmer West Africa. This will include programmatic and operational support to the team and oversight of volunteer recruitment to ensure project reporting requirements and deliverable targets are met.Conduct research for potential new business opportunities, including background research on potential international and local partners.Support proposal development through the preparation of capabilities statements, tailoring CVs, supporting recruitment/staffing processes, and other roles.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide new business research and program implementation assistance, as needed and available.

Qualifications and Background:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture preferred with focus in areas relevant to VTA’s work (agriculture/food security, agriculture education and training (AET), capacity building).

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

5-7 years experience managing USAID projectsInternational experience preferred.Experience with volunteer programming preferred.Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations.Exceptional writing and other communications skills required.Experience writing or contributing to grant applications/proposals.Excellent organizational and time-management skills, ability to think critically and work independently are a must.Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) strongly desired.Strong attention to detail

French language preferredAbility to travel 25%Must not require sponsorship to work in the US.

Position: Linkages Officer (Volunteer basis-FT)The Linkages Officer will help identify and establish collaborative relations that enable NairoBits Trust to effectively achieve its goal in facilitating “On-the-Job training” through job placements/internships within the private sector, Non governmental organizations, governments and the informal sector where use of ICT skills is a mandatory.He/she will identify, establish and manage such relations focusing primarily on the skill sets and industry sectors match while maintaining high level and close communications.Location: Nairobi City (With frequent travel locally)•Clearly understand NairoBits´s partnership needs and opportunities based on our strategic plan•Together with the programs team, lead the development and implementation of an annual partnership strategy including:•Assisting NairoBits’s team with ongoing partnership initiatives•Developing a general potential partners landscape and/pipeline•Generating leads and opening conversations with the key contacts/decision makers•Representing NairoBits in partner’s meetings and events•Creating value addition proposals and presentations to enable partnership opportunities and MOUs.•Following-up on conversations and processes in a professional manner.•Identifying best practices and incorporating new ideas for partnership building•Contributing to the NairoBits public relations efforts and solving any issues arising from partnerships.• A minimum of an undergraduate degree is required in Business Administration or Marketing, PR and Communication, International Relations or a related field is preferred.• Strong presentation, writing and negotiation skills, including the ability to elaborate partnership projects proposals.• Must possess an ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines, and work well with others in a fast-paced environment. Should be able to organize and prioritize own work with limited supervision.• Sense of initiative, discretion, mature judgment, and entrepreneurial spirit is required. Capacity to effectively interact with a multiplicity of stakeholders including senior leaders.• Innovation and strategic thinking are highly valued.
