Parole and Probation Records Technician - Deschutes County - Bend, OR

The Parole & Probation Records Technician works under general supervision in the Community Justice Department – Adult Parole & Probation Division. Position performs moderately and complex administrative activities that support parole and probation officers, specialists, and management including working with case files, legal document preparation, and public contact. This position performs specialized technical and clerical duties ranging from client case documentation, records checks and collecting urine specimens or other samples for substance and DNA testing. Problems encountered are often technical requiring judgment and excellent problem-solving skills for entering information into computer database systems. This position has regular in-person or phone contact with clients including those who may be potentially hostile or angry, victims, law enforcement officials, attorneys, and Community Justice Department staff.

This position is included in a classification and compensation study. Changes to its assigned classification, job duties, requirements, and salary range may occur.


Compensation:


$2,912.20 to $3,991.54 per month for a 172.67 hour work month. Salary normally starts at the first step. Excellent County benefit package when eligible. This union represented position is available immediately.


Minimum Qualifications:


High school diploma or equivalent and four years of progressively responsible experience involving data entry, preparation of legal documents, and public contact. Additional education may substitute for some experience.


Knowledge of legal procedures and Oregon statutes is helpful.


Must have knowledge of:


  • General office procedures and the use of standard office software and equipment.

Must have the ability to :

  • Exercise discretion and use independent judgment to make decisions related to completion of work assignments.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Perform well under pressure and deal effectively with the public in stressful or hostile situations.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others at all times.

Necessary Special Requirements:


Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon an acceptable and verifiable driver’s license and driving history, a drug screening, and a thorough employment and criminal history investigation.


Possession of or ability to obtain LEDS (Law Enforcement Data System) certification within 30 days of hire date.


Physical Requirements. Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment; and an ability to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and lift up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis.
