Detailed Description
The operator will receive all of the necessary training to become proficient in handling fuel and chemicals that are stored and moved through the terminal in addition to learning all of the safety requirements, spill response training, facility security training, PIC training and day to day responsibilities that are associated with operation of the terminal.
The Valdez Petroleum Terminal is a primary shipping facility for the product produced by the Petro Star Valdez Refinery. Fuel is moved from the Refinery to the Terminal via tanker trucks and is stored at the terminal and prepared for barge shipment to Anchorage and Western Alaska market. The Terminal is also a local distribution point for gasoline. Terminal operators are responsible for receiving truck shipments and loading the barges with fuel.
The training for the tank farm operator will include:
Fuel and chemical handling and insuring shipments are received to the proper tanks and accounted for in the inventory.
Proper safety precautions to protect personnel and equipment as well as maintain product quality. The use of proper safety equipment including clothing, tools and equipment.
Security functions as mandated by 33 CFR part 104 and 105 and by the Valdez Petroleum Terminal Facility Security Plan.
Barge loading including assistance in docking large tank barges, connecting hoses, taking line samples, fuel testing, starting and stopping pumps and constant surveillance of the loading process.
Equipment operation including front-end loader, man-lift, skidsteer, snow blowers, spill response boats and other equipment as needed to conduct terminal operations and maintenance.
Job Requirements
TANK FARM OPERATOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The operator must have proper skills to receive cargo from trucks into the proper tanks while monitoring tank volumes, reconciling product inventory every 24 hours and loading cargo onto barges. This will include valve alignment, monitoring tank gauges, determining product volumes using API tables, hand gauging tanks and monitoring fuel quality. Must be able to account for product movements and resolve discrepancies between truck deliveries and physical inventories using Excel spreadsheets.
Must become knowledgeable in the properties and characteristics of the fuel and chemicals that are handled in the terminal and must be familiar with all safe and proper handling techniques. The operator must be familiar with product specifications and be able to perform basic tests to determine product quality and volumes. The operator is responsible for handling fuel and chemicals such that product quality is never jeopardized. Must be familiar with tank farm facilities and with all products stored in the facility
The operator must retain knowledge of all tank sizes, pipelines and all possible configurations of loading and unloading schemes. The operator is responsible for lining up valves and pipelines, starting and stopping pumps to transfer fuel between tanks, load cargo into tanks, as well as service trucks and barges from the tank farm. The operator must be familiar with chemical additives in jet fuel and the proper operation of additive injection systems
The operator will be responsible for correcting minor equipment failures including maintenance of pumps, valves and routine preventative maintenance of other terminal equipment. Scheduled lubrication and equipment maintenance will also be the responsibility of the tank farm operator as directed by the operators supervisor. The Terminal operator must be capable of doing hard physical labor including shoveling snow and working inside of confined spaces.
REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or Equivalent; secondary training in a skilled trade, i.e. mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, electronic is desirable.
Minimum 24-hour Hazwoper certification is required, but 40-hour Hazwoper certification is preferred.
Must have an Alaska Drivers License with clean record; prefer CDL Class A with Hazard Material endorsement.
Current TWIC holder or able to qualify for (TWIC).
Additional Details
Schedule: 7 days on and 7 days off.
You must live in the Valdez Alaska area or be willing to relocate at your personal expense. Due to unforeseen weather conditions, it is not reasonable to assume that you will be able to live elsewhere and travel in and out of Valdez year-round to meet on-and-off shift work requirements. Additionally, if needed in the event of illness of other employees or refinery emergencies, you must be able to report to work within a reasonable period of time.
PSI is a drug-free workplace. As such, you will be required to comply with PSIs substance abuse policies. You will be required to take, at company expense, a baseline occupational/hazmat health examination upon hire and an annual occupational/hazmat health examination thereafter. The respirator fit test and respirator use requires no mustache or facial hair.
