Sayara International is a development organization committed to building positive change in transitioning societies. By working closely with networks of local change agents, we take a holistic approach to implementation, research, and monitoring and evaluation. Our programs help communities and institutions develop sustainable, research-based solutions to solve today’s toughest development challenges in Central Asia, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Our primary clients include USAID, State Department and International Non-Governmental Organizations. By employing community-based solutions, our programs focus on civil-society and governance; stabilization and transition; countering violent extremism; capacity building; and research and evaluation methods that account for the challenges of populations in crisis. Our teams of professionals work out of Sayara International global offices in Beirut, Kabul, Islamabad and Washington, DC.


Objectives


Join Sayara International’s Washington DC team and support a portfolio of development and communication projects conducted abroad. The majority of our programming is based in Afghanistan, but we are expanding and there are opportunities to work on projects based in Pakistan, Lebanon, and Nigeria. The candidate may also be involved in business development, including proposal writing, budgeting, strategy development, reporting, research, and media monitoring.


Key responsibilities


The daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following: Support field-based programs by developing program strategies, frameworks, and implementation plans. Support development of proposals for government and NGO clients. Write client-ready program reports. Edit reports written in the field by non-native English speakers. Manage and update databases and conduct M&E data analysis. Work in a dynamic environment with multiple remote teams.


Required Qualifications


University degree; secondary degree is preferable, but commensurate experience may be substituted Experience writing reports; strong English editing capabilities Excellent written and oral communication skills Can live and work in Washington DC *Willingness to work flexible hours, with potential travel to Afghanistan, and other potentially insecure environments


Desired Qualifications


Extensive experience in business development and writing proposals Knowledge of the donor industry Background in research and M&E Previous experience in strategic communications


Reporting Lines


The Program Associate reports to a Vice President and relevant program managers.
