ASCO Power Technologies, an industry leader in the manufacturing of automatic transfer switches, industrial control products and power control systems, services and solutions, has an exciting career opportunity for an Electrical Engineer for the organization at our Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ or North Carolino area.

Position Summary:

Power Control System (PCS) Electrical Engineer. Responsible for following a project from the time it is received as an order until the time it is shipped. Will be responsible for providing some or all of the following: engineering support, manufacturing support, field support and training. Reads job specifications, reviews system one line diagrams, produces job specific drawings, writes PLC programs, and helps create Bills of Material (BOM’s) and detailed sequence of operations based on professional experience. Works with Design Group to produce customer drawings and wiring schematics, and works with the Mechanical group to produce mechanical drawings that meet specifications and industry standards. The Engineer is responsible for the knowledge and understanding of Applicable Codes.

Essential Functions:
Produce required documentation for fabrication purposes; each job will require a specific bill of materials, Sequence of Operations (SOP) and Drawing package including Panel Layouts, AC schematics, DC Schematics, Customer interconnect, Spec drawings, and PLC programs. Produces the SOP’s and works with the Panel Design Group to produce drawings. The engineer will write the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programs to control the power control system. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Work with Applications group on protective relaying, NEC and UL Standards issues; review specifications, quotes and submittals, and work with Applications Engineering to resolve any items not clearly defined.
Work with Project management on scope of supply issues; reviews the Job packages and works with project management and/or Engineering manager on any items not clearly defined. Assist Project Management in developing Sequences of Operations for the submittal stage of a project.
Work with other groups in document development; works with Mechanical design group and Electrical design group in producing drawings. This includes door layout, bus layout, wiring and component layout etc.
Work with shop during fabrication. Resolves differences between the design and fabrication requirements. Makes determinations such as modifying design verses sending parts back to the vendor (may receive assistance from other sources such as engineering, project management, purchasing etc.).
Work with Test department during product testing; works with test in troubleshooting the problems and determine the resolution (may receive assistance from other engineers).
Work with other Engineers in a guidance/training role.
Provide Technical Support to customers in Project related meetings.
Provides support to services group (ASI) during startup and/or commissioning.
Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Job Requirements

The successful candidate will have a BSEE or MSEE. Requires knowledge in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering field to solve technical problems and develop engineering designs. Knowledge of principles of LV/MV switchgear, knowledge of applicable codes and standards (in particular NEC, UL891 and UL1558), protective relaying, and engine control devices a plus. Working knowledge of some or all of the following: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Jobscope/JDE (AS400), PLC Programming Software, PromisE and AutoCAD. Up to 25% travel is required.

UPS is currently hiring for a Plant Engineering Maintenance Mechanic position. This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities that are performed to keep a UPS package handling facility operating efficiently and effectively. The work is sometimes fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other hub employees. Major work activities for this position include: Troubleshooting, adjusting, and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, and timers. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils. Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps. Welding equipment such as hand rails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grading. Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: You must comply with the UPS relative policy. You must be legally able to work in the U.S. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing AC electrical equipment. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience Troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing DC electrical equipment. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience troubleshooting, repairing, and/or replacing mechanical components. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience performing measurements using linear or surface measuring tools (e.g., calipers, laser levels, gauges). You must have at least 2 years of related work experience performing measurements using electrical measuring equipment (e.g., amp meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters). You must have at least 2 years of related work experience reading blueprints and schematics. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience reading technical manuals and information such as manufacturers documentation and guidelines. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience using hand tools. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience using power tools. You must have at least 2 years of related work experience using rigging equipment. You must be able to perform basic math (e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).

Role Summary/Purpose:    The Lead Engineer / Technologist demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. Desired Characteristics    - Ten years of hands-on experience designing and developing high power (2KW-100KW) power conversion products such as AC-DC, DC-AC and DC-DC Converters.

- Experience in designing low and high frequency (low and high power) magnetic components.
- Experience with battery charging and control is helpful.
- Experience in design techniques for EMI/EMC compliance to the requirements of MIL-STD-461 and DO-160 is essential.
- Experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment is helpful.
- Solid knowledge and proficiency of standard electrical engineering software (schematic entry, simulation, etc.) and familiarity with Military Standards and Requirements is essential.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
