Librarian 1 (Non-Degreed) - State of Ohio - Ross County, OH

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is looking for a dedicated library professional to assume the responsibilities of Librarian 1 (Non-Degreed).

Job Duties :
Charge material at circulation desk, reshelf books, read shelves to maintain order. Maintain running inventory of all library materials, file catalog cards, participate in maintaining, discipline, monitor housekeeping of library, maintain law library, select, order, classify & catalog all books & library materials. Prepare orders and requests for purchase as requested; assist in receiving and checking all acquisition of materials & equipment; conduct library advisory committee meetings, maintain meeting minutes and audit files. Training of inmate library staff and maintenance of training files. Attendance at library services meeting (held bi-annually or as per policy). Assist in planning of library services. Establish and maintain varied selection of material to meet needs of both inmates and employees. Conduct library instruction when requested for both inmates and staff.


Enforce library policies. Monitor circulation of materials & obtain materials from other libraries. Review literature on new publications in order to select materials. Prepare reports on library activities. Perform or oversee performance of clerical tasks, participate in networking with local library association.


Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of undergraduate core program in library science which must have included coursework in reference cataloging & classification of books & materials, selection of books & materials, bibliographic control, procedures for circulation & library organization &/or library administration or 18 mos. exp. in providing reference services, cataloging & classifying books & materials, selecting books & materials, bibliographic control, developing procedures for circulation & library organization &/or administration.


  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of library science & technology; public relations; accreditation requirements affecting library*. Skill in operation & maintenance of microfiche reader/printer, audio-visual equipment & video display terminal. Ability to interpret extensive variety of technical material; use proper research methods in gathering data; calculate fractions, decimals & percentages; gather, collate, & classify information about data, people or things; coordinate activities of others & cooperate with others on group projects; explain library procedures to others.
