United States of America: TEPHINET Communications Specialist


Consults with management and staff to design, develop and maintain a World Wide Web site. Develops, writes and edits various communications materials including correspondence, newsletters, brochures and articles. Develops and maintains effective methods for distributing communication materials and information. Maintains required record-keeping and documentation. May train staff in the use of communications technology. May utilize various aspects of social media to accomplish work objectives. Performs related responsibilities as required.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:**


The TEPHINET Communications Specialist works with the TEPHINET leadership and team to support both strategic communications initiatives and project communications. Tasks assigned to the Communications Specialist encompass a variety of communications disciplines, including writing and editing, document formatting, social media monitoring, website monitoring and maintenance, communications support for conferences and meetings, and management of email lists and newsletter subscriptions. The Communications Specialist also supports the team members in maintaining libraries of project materials and communications resources.


Writing/Editing


  • Drafts documents for review, working from meeting notes, project source materials, stakeholder interviews, and/or subject matter research, as appropriate.

  • Edits/proofs documents for readability, consistency, adherence to style/usage guides, and correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.

  • Writes content for the TEPHINET blogs on www.TEPHINET.org.

  • Coordinates the production of the TEPHINET annual report.

Graphics/Layout


  • Edits/creates simple graphics as assigned.

  • Formats documents and creates document layouts that optimize readability and impact.

  • Creates and assists with PowerPoint presentations, integrating images and graphics as needed.

  • Takes photographs of events and staff at work as needed.

Website and Social Media


  • Performs day-to-day maintenance tasks on website, such as keeping industry news current, monitoring comments, and updating the events calendar.

  • Monitors/updates daily newsfeeds and uploads new resources, as published.

  • Monitors and reports on site analytics.

  • Serves as a resource for social media by overseeing and monitoring social media platforms.

  • Maintains the mini-grant website.

Conferences and Meetings


  • Prepares collateral materials for meetings/conferences, as assigned.

  • Takes/transcribes meeting notes as assigned, consolidating input from multiple sources as needed.

  • Coordinates exhibit logistics for conferences, as assigned.

Newsletters and Mailings


  • Maintains email lists for TEPHINET.

  • Creates general email newsletters and coordinates newsletter subscriptions and mailings.

Communications Libraries


  • Maintains central library of communications materials, such as boilerplate copy, document and presentation templates, and logos.

Other Responsibilities:


  • Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by Task Force management.

TRAVEL: Up to 10% domestic and international travel


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


· Three years’ experience specifically in copy editing and writing.


· Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


· Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and work-related priorities.


· Familiarity with top social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) and comfort exploring new and emerging platforms.


· Great organizational skills and attention to detail.


· Experience in information management in the public health or health care environment is helpful. Some competency in graphic design, videography and video editing, and/or photography is preferred, but not required.
