Office Assistant 1 - State of Ohio - Tuscarawas County, OH

Types/operates personal computer or typewriter to perform basic clerical duties & produce basic, repetitive typed materials (e.g. forms, form letters, correspondence, labels); proofreads all work and updates information.

Greets and directs visitors to desired location. Receives and directs incoming phone calls and places outgoing phone calls. Supplies general information to internal and external customers. Takes messages as needed. Performs clerical duties (e.g. staples &/or stuffs correspondence, prepares materials for mailing, operates copy machine, alphabetizes correspondence & various material for filing);


Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor


Minimum Qualifications:
1 course or 3 mos. exp. in basic typing; formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.


Major Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of general office practices & procedures*; agency-specific office practices & procedures*; addition & subtraction. Skill in typing; operating some office machines (e.g., address-o-graph)*. Ability to carry out simple instructions; carry out detailed but basic written or oral instructions; deal with problems involving few variables within familiar context; read, copy & record figures; answer routine inquiries from public; complete routine forms or records; move fingers easily to perform functions repeatedly; proofread typed material, recognize errors & make corrections. All Bargaining Unit new hires MUST serve a one (1) year probationary period.

Position will be filled pursuant to the provision of the OCSEA/AFSCME Contract. ODOT work rules require its’ employees to report secondary employment or a proprietary interest in a business.
