Under basic supervision, provides support to Yuma Police Department (YPD) sworn police officers by responding to low priority calls for service; conducts routine field investigations, collects evidence and details of crimes, and prepares reports; assists with other Police support and community service programs.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assists YPD Officers by performing routine support duties; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Responds to low priority calls for service which do not require the presence of a sworn Police Officer.
- Evaluates crime and accident scenes, gathers physical evidence, takes measurements and photographs, and interviews victims and witnesses; takes detailed notes, and prepares reports for review by supervisor.
- Assists with neighborhood policing and community service programs, community events, inventory and warehouse duties, and special assignments.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Yuma and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; promotes the City goals and priorities, and complies with all City policies and procedures.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; and one year of customer service and computer experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a law enforcement environment is preferred. Must pass a polygraph examination and background check.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Safe work practices and occupational hazards in accident scenes and traffic environments.
- Geography, roads, and landmarks of City and surrounding areas.
Skill in:
- Interviewing victims and witnesses.
- Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Following and communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver’s License is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment and in the field. Required to bend, reach, stoop, and lift objects.
