United States of America: Communications Associate


This is a unique opportunity to broaden your knowledge within International Health Systems by supporting the communications team for the SIAPS end-of program and possibly, SIAPS II proposal. (http://siapsprogram.org/). Your formatting experience in MS Word 8,10, together with experience on web publishing platforms and communication through social media will make you a viable candidate for this exciting role. Competencies we are looking for include your initiative, your organization and attention to detail, your proven ability to juggle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment while working to tight deadlines. In return, you will gain experience in technical writing, contribute content to our intranet and the SIAPS website, while working with an exceptional team of writers, editors, and design infographics professionals.
Specific Responsibilities


Regular SIAPS website maintenance (60%)


Writing and posting material on SIAPS website:


  • Writing, updating, and posting SIAPS staff bios.

  • Writing and posting short blurbs on new SIAPS materials—trainings, reports, etc.

  • Updating country pages using current SIAPS information (annual reports, quarterly reports, country postings) working with senior communications specialist.

  • Updating events on website.

  • Write SIAPS “News” items (with oversight).

Providing support to SIAPS’ social media efforts (10%)


Work with Comms staff to track and publicize SIAPS events on social media:


  • Work with senior communications associate to publicize SIAPS activities through writing and post blogs and working through social media to raise awareness of SIAPS work.

Handle procurement for PHT editorial (30%)


Work with editors to procure consultants, writers, and graphic artists:


  • Manage SIAPS procurement software system—Proactis.

  • Track procurement jobs through submission to payment.


  • Keep staff up-to-date on completion of jobs, including payment.




  • BA in International health, communications, journalism, or other related discipline.



  • 1 year communications or journalism experience.

Preferred


  • Master’s in Public Health.

  • Some experience in global health desired.

  • 2-3 years’ experience in editing and writing.

Knowledge and Skills


  • Strong MS Word 8, 10 experience with expertise in formatting.

  • Experience with web publishing platforms, preferably Word Press.

  • Experience with communication through social media, ideally experience in converting technical documents in shorter informative pieces for web or blogs.

Competencies


  • Proven experience in juggling multiple tasks and able to adapt to respond to last minute requests.

  • High attention to detail, very organized and able to maintain accuracy under pressure

  • Comfortable working independently with some supervision and being able to engage with wide variety of staff members.

Physical Demands


  • Keyboard use, Pulling drawers, Lifting papers <10lbs.
