About Global Health Corps
Global Health Corps (GHC) is a leadership development organization focused on building the next generation of diverse, disruptive global health leaders. Founded in 2009, we competitively recruit talented professionals (ages 21-30) from a range of sectors and backgrounds and place them in high-impact roles within partner organizations — including Clinton Health Access Initiative, Partners in Health, Planned Parenthood Global, and Government Ministries in Zambia, Rwanda, and Uganda — working on the front lines of health equity in Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the US, and Zambia.
GHC is seeking fellows from a wide range of backgrounds, geographies, and expertise. Through a one-year paid fellowship program, fellows provide the expertise and leadership potential needed to fill capacity gaps in global health.
About Placement Organization
Since its inception, The GE Foundation has been in the business of taking complex problems in the field of health and breaking them down into simple interventions. By doing so, we are committed to addressing access to care by equipping communities with the technology, processes and capacity to improve health care for underserved populations.
The GE Foundation is working in 17 countries, including the U.S. We began by working primarily with health centers and health facilities, and have since expanded our partnerships to include academic institutions, think tanks, ministries of health and many more. We are approaching 500,000 hours of skills-based volunteer time throughout the health portfolio since our launch. Around the globe we’re in 415 health facilities, and to date we’ve invested about $205 million in the Developing Health portfolio since 2004.
In late 2015 the GE Foundation launched two signature initiatives, Project ECHO in the U.S. and Safe Surgery globally.
Safe Surgery 2020 will address the lack of access to safe surgery across the world by improving surgical capacity, infrastructure and training. To do this, Safe Surgery 2020 will implement strong sustainable leadership programs, an innovation pathway, and global advocacy.
Project ECHO will improve access to care by transferring specialty knowledge for common complex conditions to the primary care providers. By leveraging technology, specialists are connected to primary care providers, who, over time, build the capacity to treat more patients, keeping them local to their community, rather than referring on.
The complete Developing Health global portfolio, includes, as examples, 1) Programs that engage GE employee volunteers, affinity networks, and local GE business leaders in improving patient access and quality of care in underserved communities, 2) Programs focused on health care delivery for underserved populations globally, 3) Product donations and capacity building initiatives in underserved countries, 4) Infrastructure and technology deployment globally, and 5) Disaster response.
