Lab Technician - Holtec MFG - Orrville, OH





Job Summary

Under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, the Lab Technician is responsible for procuring lab equipment, drafting work instructions, drafting procedures, performing testing, and interfacing with members of the Orrvilon / Holtec quality departments.


Roles and Responsibilities


1. Performs appropriate chemical/mechanical analysis following standard operating procedures


2. Contributes data to the Lab Supervisor, Quality Manager and Production team


3. Notify the Lab Supervisor, Quality Manager of any condition that affects safety, productivity, or quality.


4. Work with the Orrvilon Quality Department to ensure that material that is produced in-house and supplied from vendors meets specification


5. Generate and report test results


6. Maintain housekeeping in the laboratories so safe and efficient work practices can be performed


7. Maintain laboratory equipment/supplies and inform Quality Lead when equipment is due for calibration


8. Receives guidance/direction from others on projects


Qualifications


  • 2 year lab technician degree (Chemical, Metallurgical, Mechanical) or High School Diploma with 5yrs of lab experience. 5 years of lab experience is not required but is preferred.

  • 4 year college degree preferred

  • Good computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point & Access)

  • Excellent communication skills, organizational and time management skills

  • Good teamwork skills, participates in teams

  • Willing and capable of standing the entire shift

  • Capable of lifting 50 pounds

  • Position is on 1st shift (7:00am – 4:00pm) but is subject to change

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.

Familiarity with the following is desirably


  • Wet chemistry experience is preferred

  • Familiarity with the following ASTM procedures an asset

  • E8-04 / E21 -05 (mechanical testing: yield, ultimate tensile, elongation)

  • E23-07 (charpy impact testing)

  • E1225-04 (thermal conductivity)

  • Understands laboratory documentation

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings correctly

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred

  • Familiarity with safety procedures and principles for the laboratory to support working in a safe environment
