Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international non-profit organization that promotes non-violent conflict transformation. With headquarters in Washington, DC and Brussels, Belgium, Search’s mission is to transform how individuals, organizations, and governments deal with conflict – away from adversarial approaches and toward cooperative solutions. Search partners with conflicting parties in a process of understanding their differences and acting on their commonalities. With a total of approximately 600 staff worldwide, Search implements projects from 57 offices in 35 countries, including in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. Summary of Position
Search for Common Ground is seeking a fall intern with skills in conflict resolution, youth mobilization, and monitoring and evaluation to work on Battle for Humanity (B4H), a multi-year, global initiative to end violent conflict based on an online, gamified platform now in pre-launch phase. We will spend the fall testing the activities developed for B4H in a social media environment to determine their relevance to young people and efficacy in building conflict resolution skills, ahead of our soft launch of a dedicated mobile app. The Global Youth Program M&E Intern will report to the Strategic Development Manager, with support from the Children & Youth Program Coordinator. The intern will help monitor and evaluate young people’s online activities, working closely with the creative team behind Battle for Humanity, Search for Common Ground’s global partners, and field offices across four continents. This is an unpaid internship with the option of earning credit.
Responsibilities
- Monitoring youth beta testers’ online activities – quantitative and qualitative – to help determine the relevance, resonance, and efficacy of planned program activities.
- Tracking individual participants and recording data on their demographics, activities, and preferences to inform program evaluation
- Suggesting recommendations for improving planned activities based on monitoring and evaluation
- Researching definitions and survey items for key competencies on which we want to evaluate youth participants
- Learning basics of mixed methods data analysis
- Support the building and mobilization of a core community of youth participants
- Contributing to the creative process behind Battle for Humanity
- Assist with writing grant proposals based on B4H and running a crowdfunding campaign

Minimum Qualifications
- Extraordinary detail orientation and ability to build systems for recording information
- Experience with monitoring and evaluation
- Skilled researcher
- Passion for mobilizing youth as leaders in peace
- Great initiative and ability to self-motivate
- Significant intercultural experience and understanding
- Familiarity with social media
- Currently enrolled in a conflict resolution, communications, or related degree
Salary: This is an unpaid internship.
