The Near East Foundation (NEF) is seeking candidates for anAccounting and Administration Manager to be based in its Syracuse headquarters. For 100 years, NEF has worked to build more sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive communities in the Middle East and North Africa through education, governance, and economic development initiatives. Working through a network of country offices and local partners, NEF currently has approximately 125 staff members – all nationals – in seven countries: Armenia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Mali, Morocco, Palestine, Senegal and Sudan. Our programs are organized around four themes: Peacebuilding, Civic Engagement and Education, Sustainable Agriculture, and Microenterprise Development.


Position description:


The Accounting and Administration Manager is a key member of the accounting and administration teams. Working closely with the VP and CFO, the AVP of Operations and the regional financial managers, s/he will manage the day-to-day operations of the administration and accounting departments with a focus on the organization-wide monthly and annual processes related to all accounting functions and payroll. S/he will work closely with the VP and CFO on the annual audit.


Responsibilities:


· Works closely with the VP and CFO to develop, maintain, and ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.


· Manage the accounting function and ensure timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly and annual general ledger closings.


· Work closely with regional finance managers to make sure expenses are allocated appropriately and in compliance with contractual agreements.


· Ensure revenue is properly recognized in accordance with GAAP and donor requirements.


· Responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger and subsidiary accounts.


· Monitor all bank accounts and ensure monthly reconciliations are complete and accurate.


· Support the CFO with the annual audit process.


· Administer payroll functions and ensure compliance with all local regulations


· Monitors all time sheets and staff allocation to projects.


· Effectively communicates relevant information internally and externally.


· Other duties as assigned by the VP and CFO.


Qualifications:


· Bachelors degree in accounting required. MBA or CPA is a plus.


· Minimum eight years experience, with at least two years at the manager level.


· Experience with USG funding scheme. Experience with European funders is a plus.


· Ability to effectively multi-task and apply judgment.


· Availability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment and able to retain flexibility of work hours.


· Effective oral and written communication skills.


· Demonstrated proficiency with accounting systems software, expertise in Excel. Experience with Quickbooks is a plus.


· French language skills a plus.


· Ability to travel internationally for an estimated 25% of the time.


· Must be eligible to work in the United States. Must reside in Syracuse (NY).


Salary:


Commensurate with experience.
