Chemonics seeks a constituency building and communications expert for the anticipated USAID-funded Biodiversity Results and Integrated Development Gains Enhanced (BRIDGE) program. BRIDGE aims to integrate biodiversity for improved outcomes in conservation in USAID missions by building an improved internal enabling environment and technical capacity within the agency for integration, and growing the evidence base for biodiversity and development integration and increasing its use by decision-makers and external constituencies. The constituency building and communications expert will be based in or near the Washington, D.C., metro area. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide technical direction, input, and management of activities to identify and engage constituencies for biodiversity integration
- Work with USAID to identify and ensure strategic engagement in international fora relevant to integration, including and beyond the traditional biodiversity realm
- Identify key potential partners and allies within USAID and partner institutions
- Identify communications audiences and messages, and oversee related activities, products, and events
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in international development, biodiversity conservation, ecology, economics, finance, sociology, anthropology, public administration, or related field required
- Minimum six years of experience (eight to 10 years of experience preferred) in international development or closely related field
- Substantial expertise in biodiversity and natural resources management and other sectors of international development
- Experience and expertise with international conservation and development policies, processes, and donors
- Experience developing strategic messaging and communications, and using data and evidence to persuade or influence decision-makers
- Demonstrated ability to effectively form partnerships and build alliances for development, including with international donors, private sector actors, nongovernmental organizations, and research bodies
- Demonstrated management skills and experience sufficient to oversee major components of an integrated, multiyear project
- Ability to communicate effectively with USAID counterparts
- Broad geographical experience required
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- English fluency required; strong language skills in an additional language strongly preferred
