This classification performs a variety of duties relating to County recreation programs. Work includes assisting in developing recreational programs, reviewing and improving existing programs and promoting and implementing programs. Areas of assignment: Youth Programs, Aquatics, Athletics, Recreation Center, Racquet Center.


Working Conditions

Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.


Job Duties:


Essential Functions

Coordinates registration and collects fees for recreational programs.


Answers general inquiries from the public about availability and use of equipment, facilities and programs; handles complaints.

Assists management in generating reports on registrant, program and revenue information.


Assists in the administrative and supervisory aspects of assigned County recreational programs.


Plans and implements recreational activities.


Enforces rules and regulations of proper facility use; maintains cleanliness of recreational areas and related facilities.


May provide instruction and/or training, in accordance with area of assignment.


Works as a team member with other staff.


Sells recreation-related merchandise; logs and tags merchandise; may assist supervisor with inventory and reconciling daily transactions.


Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.


Minimum Qualifications:


High school graduate/equivalent.

Associate’s degree in recreation, education, business, public administration, or related field desired.


Minimum of two (2) years work experience in recreation or field related to area of assignment.


Prior customer service experience required.


Community CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire.


Valid driver’s license with valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.


Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.


Knowledge/Abilities/Skills Knowledge of, and ability to actively participate in or with, a variety of recreational/aquatic games, activities and equipment associated with area of assignment, i.e., skate parks, aquatics, athletics, fitness, racquet sports, gold, youth/special interest classes, special events, etc.

Knowledge of rules and regulations governing operation of assigned Recreation Center facility.

Knowledge of, and ability to efficiently operate, basic office equipment, including cash registers and personal computers.

Ability to efficiently perform applicable computer operations, i.e., RecTrac and/or Point of Sale, Word, etc.

Ability to collect and account for revenues properly in a high volume business setting.

Ability to work with the public in a firm, but tactful and courteous manner.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County officials and the general public.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing, including making presentations.

Ability to inventory merchandise and handle cash transactions accurately.

Ability to perform strenuous work under varying climatic conditions (indoors and outdoors).

Ability to work flexible work schedules, including weekends and holidays.


Position Specific:


Applies knowledge of applicable policies, rules, procedures, regulations, rates and the customer information computer systems, effectively executes all skills associated with customer service, including, but not limited to, answering and effectively satisfying all customer requests, inquiries and complaints.
