Summary
The Senior Specialist, Education in Emergencies, as part of the International Program Education Team, supports education services in emergency contexts (affected by conflict, fragility and or natural disasters) and positions the programs for post-emergency evolution or closure. Key areas of work include integrating education and SCUS emergency response efforts, providing capacity building and training of SC staff and partners in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and documentation of education interventions in emergency and chronic crisis settings. The Senior Specialist supports the SCUS EiE Strategy, serving as key point of contact within DECD for emergencies.
Responsibilities
- Technical and Operational Support for quality programming at HQ and Save the Children International country offices
- Support activities to improve the preparedness and technical capacity of SCUS to respond with high quality programming in future emergencies
- Provide technical support to new and ongoing emergencies
- Deploy in the early phases of emergencies as the principal education member of emergency response teams responsible for the establishment of education activities for affected populations
- Public and Private Resource Mobilization
- Support advocacy Efforts
- Support Relevant M & E and Research Initiatives
Requirements
Master’s Degree in relevant field with a minimum of 7 years field based experience in education in refugee, chronic crisis and other emergency situations in a position of responsibility. Demonstrated knowledge of current Education in Emergencies issues and an ability to support development of resource materials. Experience working with major donors including UNHCR UNICEP, UNESCO and USAID. Knowledge of INEE and familiarity with the INEE minimum standards and other relevant INEE materials. Knowledge and experience with the IASC cluster System, specifically Education Cluster Unit. Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
