This position is located in the Communication Section of Police Service at the Lake City, FL VHMC. Incumbent initiates and accomplishes a variety of complex communications duties such as monitoring and directing response to police and life safety communications, radio dispatching to officers for response to calls for police assistance, and for special assignments relating to special patient transport. Incumbent is responsible for operation of SSTV systems, telephone, and alarm systems. Duties include the following but are not limited to:
· Conducts hourly radio station identification code checks as requires by the Federal Communication Commission and radio checks every 30 minutes with uniformed police officers.
· Maintains accurate radio/alarm activity records/logs to include dates, times, and results of communications and activity. Responsible for the orderly flow of communications between the police operations office, the Chiefs office, and the uniformed patrol officers.
· Monitors security surveillance cameras and detects criminal activity in progress, suspicious behavior patterns, observes suspects, and known offenders, takes supporting law enforcement action and continuously monitors that person until they are intercepted and detained.
· Testifies in criminal court as a witness in cases where they observed the criminal activity.
· Provides information to employees and the public concerning information and furnishes traffic direction.
· During the absence of a female officer may be asked to perform a “pat down” of female prisoners or suspects to protect officers. (Female employee).
· Assists outside law enforcement officers on official business.
· Maintains fingerprint information and ensures the records are purged according to the System of Records storage requirements and VA privacy requirements.
· Receives and compiles information from various sources relating to police and emergency incidents, taking appropriate action regarding fire alarms, intrusion, duress and hold-up alarms, and directs response and/or notifies responsible personnel, depending on the type of incident or request. Operates a variety of communications equipment, such as computers, alarm processors, radio consoles, SSTV.
· Compiles and prepares reports relating to events occurring in the operation of the police operations office for dissemination of the completed product to various supervisors, department heads, and top management officials for coordination of emergency situations.
· The incumbent monitors the operation of all communication/security and related electronic equipment daily; and in the event of a malfunction, coordinates with appropriate maintenance personnel to effect repairs.
· Tracks and orders supplies and ensures adequate supplies are maintained.
· Performs work related to the collection, organization, and/or tracking of information in support of the security and law enforcement programs by compiling information related to police/emergency incidents, fire, intrusion, duress, and hold-up alarms.
·Serves as the subject matter expert for the successful operation of all communications/security related equipment which includes CCTV camera monitors, all intrusion detection devices, nurse call system, code blue system, and digital video recorders, panic alarms, fire alarms, and duress alarms.
Work Schedule: Rotating Shifts, 6am-6pm or 6pm-6am or 8:00am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, Including Weekends & Holidays
