RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
International Resources Group, an Engility company, seeks an experienced international development professional to lead the group’s programs in Climate Change, Natural Resources and Biodiversity Management (CNRB) based in Alexandria, Virginia.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will provide leadership and direct support to related business development, project performance and management, thought leadership and communications. The CNRB Practice Team Leader manages a dedicated Headquarters team and supervises project Chiefs of Party. This position reports to the USAID Account Director and works in close collaboration with other USAID Account Practice Area team members, project partners, clients and other IRG Divisions. Regular international travel is required – occasionally with short notice and for extended periods. Work hours may vary, depending on the workload at particular periods.
Responsibilities:
Business Development:
- Lead the definition and implementation of a strategy to expand IRG’s work in the areas of climate change, natural resources management, biodiversity conservation and wildlife trafficking, notably with our primary client, USAID
- Work with the Business Development and CNRB teams to prioritize and oversee new business opportunities and expenditures
- Build and manage proposal teams in pursuit of new business
- Lead specific new business opportunities
- Represent Engility at meetings, conferences and in communications with current and prospective new clients
- Support definition of targets and content for relevant communications and marketing
- Develop strong working relationships with clients and potential clients
- Lead the planning, management and success of the REPLACE IDIQ
Technical Assistance:
- Enhance IRG’s technical reputation through thought leadership in the fields of climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and natural resources management
- Participate in short-term technical and supervision assignments as required on projects, both domestically and overseas
- Interact regularly with clients on relevant technical issues and opportunities
- Identify and develop project implementation innovations to improve impact and sustainability
Project Management:
- Serve as a Headquarters supervisor for relevant projects
- Provide guidance to project key personnel, for completion of overall contract objectives and activities
- Supervise activities of Headquarters professional staff assigned to the CNRB Practice
- Oversee project quarterly progress review process
- Review and provide feedback, as required, to critical project deliverables and communications products
- Participate in efforts to improve policies and procedures for effective project performance
Team Management and Mentoring:
- Provide direct supervision to all staff members of the CNRB Team
- Identify, organize and plan resources and staffing of the CNRB Team
- Lead tracking of performance against revenue, profit and billability goals for the CNRB Practice
- Participate in leadership meetings, as required
- Ensure timely performance feedback and review of CNRB Team staff members including relevant project-dedicated staff
- Contribute to on-going mentorship and development of junior staff
MINIMUM TANGIBLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in an area relating to Climate Change, Natural Resources Management, Biodiversity Conservation
- Previous experience working with or for USAID
- At least 10 years of directly relevant international development work in one or more of: climate change, NRM, biodiversity conservation
- Demonstrated experience in business development, including successful proposal writing
- Experience managing, leading and participating in diverse teams
- Experience working on international / overseas assignments in developing countries
- Demonstrated ability to develop innovative solutions to technical issues and programs
- Extensive knowledge of USAID policies, practices and priorities in the climate, biodiversity and natural resource management arenas
- Demonstrated exceptional communications and writing skills
- Software Experience: MS Office
- Proficient in English, with working competency in French or Spanish

- Experience employing GIS technologies and products
- Experience with value chain development related to conservation and/or tourism
- Experience in tourism and wildlife trafficking
- Experience addressing issues of inclusion in international development
