Who we are
We’re Population Services International (PSI), the world’s leading non-profit social marketing organization. We work to make it easier for people in the developing world to be healthy by providing access to products and services that range from mosquito nets to HIV testing.
There are over 9,000 “PSI’ers” around the world. It’s a diverse group of entrepreneurs and professionals with an unusually wide range of backgrounds – from the medical industry to the music business – all with unique skills we bring to the job.
Join us!
The Field Finance Support team based at PSI’s headquarters in Washington, DC works with the finance teams in 60+ country offices around the world to build capacity, implement processes and systems, and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. We help recruit local finance teams by writing job descriptions, and interviewing and testing candidates. We train on accounting policy and procedure, as well as QuickBooks Enterprise and Infor 10. We review and provide feedback on their balance sheets and monthly financial packets. We help prepare management responses to audit reports and action plans to remediate findings. We travel to country offices often to provide on-site support.
We are looking for a Field Finance Support Advisor to help us strengthen our finance teams in our country offices.
Sound like you? Read on.
Your contribution
You will support roughly 10-12 finance teams in one of PSI’s five geographic regions. You will:
Implement New Processes and Systems
• Deploy PSI’s new “Finance in a Box” to country offices in your assigned region. This is a package of policies, processes, procedures and tools to build high-performing finance teams.
• Upgrade country offices currently using cash-basis QuickBooks Pro to accrual-basis QuickBooks Enterprise. Features new to these country offices include purchase orders, inventory, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Align processes in countries that already have PSI’s ERP, Infor 10, to the new processes in “Finance in a Box”.
• Train local finance teams how to transact, reconcile and report in QuickBooks Enterprise and Infor 10.
• Support local management in understanding the tools available to monitor and review financial reports, and to extract and analyze data to help run the business better, in both QuickBooks Enterprise and Infor 10.
• Craft change management plans to assure full adoption of and compliance with new processes, procedures and systems.
Build Finance Team Capacity
• Train in the field and in Washington, DC.
• Assess skills of current staff, identify gaps, and propose ways to fill gaps to achieve required skill levels.
• Train accrual basis accounting and accounting best practices.
• Train and raise awareness of PSI accounting policy, processes, procedures and internal controls.
• Help local accounting staff become advanced Excel users, including functions such as pivot tables.
Ensure Timely, Accurate Financial Reporting and Compliance
• Review balance sheets and monthly finance packets from the field, provide feedback to country teams and to Washington backstopping teams.
• Track outstanding issues, escalate as needed, and reach out to other departments such as Procurement or Grants & Contracts for their input as required.
• Prepare management responses to audit reports, propose action plans to remediate audit findings, and follow up to ensure compliance.
• Request deviations from global policies and processes and localize procedures to conform to local statutory requirements and business needs.
Recruit Top Talent
• Write job descriptions, help determine where to advertise job openings, screen job applications, conduct in-person and remote interviews, administer skill tests, and recommend top candidates to the hiring manager.
Give Great Customer Service
• Respond to all finance-related inquiries from field offices, including soliciting input from other Washington departments as needed in order to provide a complete answer.
• Treat country offices as highly valued clients.
• Take on other duties as projects as assigned.
