This is an exciting time to join PHR. The organization has finalized its new strategic plan and is poised to launch an extensive fundraising campaign to further grow PHR’s financial resources and programmatic reach. The Major Gifts Manager will be a key player in the campaign.


Position Summary


Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) seeks an experienced fundraising professional to significantly expand and steward its base of major donors. Primary responsibilities focus on major donor engagement, including stewardship of PHR’s leadership council, managing donor communications, setting up stewardship strategies for top donors as well as overseeing PHR’s annual gala. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer; serves on a staff of five committed fundraising professionals; works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, donors, and programmatic staff; and is based in the New York City headquarters.

Responsibilities


· Develops and implements long and short terms fundraising strategies to expand PHR’s base of major donors, both domestically and internationally.


· Works with program and communications staff to draft donor briefs, proposals and asks to secure gifts.


· Designs an annual calendar of creative and unique major donor engagement opportunities.


· Plans and implements cultivation and stewardship events for prospective and current donors, such as dinners, receptions, and donor briefings.


· Develops annual donor plans.


· Identifies major donor prospects from the existing donor base as well as new sources.


· Tracks donors and prospects through the moves management system.


· Regularly measures and reports on fundraising progress.


· Responsible for the fundraising and production of PHR fundraising events including the annual gala and working with a gala committee and other stakeholders.


Qualifications


· Bachelor’s degree


· Minimum five years of fundraising experience with a track record of building donor relations and closing gifts


· Results focused with strong internal direction and motivation


· Knowledge of donors in the New York area and in the human rights field helpful


· Excellent planning and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize, manage time efficiently, meet deadlines, and work independently and collaboratively


· Superb written and verbal communication skills


· Good listener with the ability to build rapport easily with internal and external constituents


· A team-oriented person with a passion for human rights, excellent judgment, maturity, creativity, flexibility, and a good sense of humor
