Sets the overall philosophy and strategy of the organization regarding legal matters and ensuring that all practices, policies, and business activities of the organization are in compliance with applicable legal requirements. Provides legal counsel and guidance to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer, officers, directors and other managers on all corporate matters involving legal questions.
Essential Functions:
- Manage the legal activities of the company with the objective of protecting the company’s interests and providing assistance to executives and managers concerning how laws and regulations impact their functional areas
- Oversee all legal services involving binding legal obligations, including healthcare contracts or agreements, negotiation and enforcement of procurement contracts, professional services contracts, outlying service level agreements, and third-party agreements.
- Oversee and manage policy development as it relates to legal matters.
- Select and manage relations with outside counsel.
- Interface with senior executives, vice presidents and other key members of the WellCare leadership team.
- Communicate and educate WellCare’s leadership team on corporate legal affairs matters.
- Participate as a member of the WellCare executive leadership team in developing the overall strategic plans. necessary for short- and long-term success.
- Prepare the organization for and ensure compliance with all legal developments, regulatory requirements or new legislation.
- Builds, develops and directs subordinate staff to ensure ongoing commitment to company initiatives and legal compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: A Juris Doctorate (JD)
Experience: Robust experience overseeing/reviewing health law contracts and health law related transactions, managed care and legislative process, joint ventures, and professional service agreements. Mastery of complex areas of law. Proven track record of leadership experience. Experience working with key government groups and the ability to identify and build relationships with key leaders within government health agencies and senior staff of committees that affect health care legislation.
Licenses/Certifications: Licensed by the ABA in the state of Florida

- Technical Skills/Requirements: Proficient in Microsoft Office such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook and Access.
