Volunteer Services are a cornerstone of the Penn Patient Experience and the model patient-center care.

Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:


  • Assisting the Director with the operations of the hospital – wide program volunteers through recruiting, screening, training, assigning, orienting, evaluating, recognizing and retaining volunteer staff

  • Coordinating and supervising all aspects of the Volunteer Services Program for Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and the Office of Patient and Family Experience

  • Partnering with PPMC Departments and units to assist with the development of credible, worthwhile and sought-after volunteer opportunities.

  • Maintaining compliance with hospital Occupational Medicine and HRIS training requirements.

  • Imputing volunteer hours, managing the volunteer database, and assisting the director with monthly reports.

  • Assisting in ensuring compliance with corporate, state, and federal regulations.

  • Coordinating all clerical aspects of the Volunteer Services program

  • Ensuring the coordination of patient and family needs for volunteer services and overseeing the development of and implementation of plans of care to meet those needs.

  • Proven self-motivation and ability to motivate others to reach excellence in service delivery

Minimum Requirements


Qualifications for position:


  • College degree in related field and experience working with volunteers preferred

  • High school degree or equivalent required.

  • Minimum two years’ experience in an academic medical center preferred

  • Strong verbal/written communication, advanced computer skills including proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications required

  • Excellent people skills and the ability to work with diverse groups required

  • Organization, detail oriented skills with the ability to be flexible, calm, and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment required

  • Strong human relations and interpersonal skills required

  • A sound understanding of safety requirements required

  • The mastery of using a calculator, copier, fax machine, shredder, computer, and other office equipment required
