BACKGROUND:
Mercy Corps continues to hone and sharpen systems to increase agency efficiency and effectiveness and maximize impact for the people we aim to serve. This requires ensuring we have the right people, capacities and systems to not only implement programs on time, on scope and on budget but to ensure learning is used and leveraged to enable influence and impact throughout implementation. As part of this, Mercy Corps is undertaking the development and rollout of a software solution, called Tola, to support adaptive program management by improving the quality of program data and ensuring we retain the evidence necessary to support the results we report on our programs.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Up until this point we have been primarily focused on setup, configuration and getting data into the TolaData platform. As we begin to scale and more data is available, we want to pivot and focus on analysis of the data and facilitating opportunities for learning and iterative improvements to program implementation by taking advantage of the platform’s built-in feedback loops and near real-time reporting. The Data Analyst Intern will operationalize these processes by working with the TolaData team and directly with Mercy Corps country teams. The Intern will leverage their experience in data analysis workflows to help teams design digital data collection tools and database structures. Additionally the Intern will draw on their statistical programming background to build targeted analytics and data visualizations in collaboration with country teams. The Intern will conduct trainings and informally mentor staff to build their capacity and increase their ability to operate independently in the future. If necessary, the Intern may be asked to travel abroad to offer in-person support.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Works with program teams to devise strategies to enable effective data usage, including through participatory reflective, analysis and learning approaches.
Provide training and support to country teams to take advantage of the platform’s built-in feedback loops that directly inform program managers and enable iterative improvements to program implementation.
Works with country team leaders to build a culture of being data-driven and learning.
