The Malaria and Child Survival Department (MCSD) handles all multi-country grants related to Malaria or Child Survival, and has a team of technical experts who fly out to support our programs in 60+ countries. You will join the Program Management team inside the Malaria and Child Survival Department, working with a Program Coordinator, a Senior Associate Program Manager, a Communication Associate and reporting to the Program Manager. We are a team of goal-oriented high performers, who balances bringing the fun while keep it real to achieve our deliverables.


We are looking for a motivated Financial Analyst to help us monitor the overall financial/contractual status of large grants and provide finance support for domestic and overseas program staff with oversight from the Malaria and Child Survival Program Manager. Your contribution


Financial monitoring


  • Monitor financial performance and efficiency of centrally managed projects: analyze country/project monthly spend rates and highlight possible problem areas; review suspense accounts and accounts receivable; project close out coordination;

  • Work closely with the Billing and Revenue Accountant to manage timely submission of donor invoices including their review, analysis and approval by project managers.

  • Co-manage MCSD labor tracker with Program coordinator to ensure appropriate salary expenditure; update team members’ labor trackers as necessary and serve as primary point of contact for any questions or issues.

  • Review the Surplus/Deficit report and alert the PM on significant variances in advance of the quarterly Surplus/Deficit meeting – research the reasons for the variance and propose corrective action when applicable

  • Prepare transaction detail analysis and re-class expenses as necessary.

Audit management


  • Carry out sampling and auditing of sub-recipients under centrally funded grants (travel may be necessary).

  • Coordinate the preparation and implementation of audits, with the Audit manager, for centrally funded grants.

Capacity building


  • Provide assistance to the Nairobi Regional PSI office regarding financial management and compliance with PSI procedures.

  • Facilitate capacity building sessions on financial budget management for DC-based and field staff;

Budget development


  • Prepare and track Annual Operating Budgets. Prepare modifications and realignments as necessary;

  • Work with the MCSD team and New Business Development to develop project budgets for key proposals;

Compliance


  • Coordinate with Contract departments to assure adherence to donor guidelines for sub-awards, consultants, and other contractual issues as well as set-up new project codes for new agreements and work orders under centrally managed projects.

  • Assist in setting up new subawards as necessary, in compliance with PSI policies.

  • Financial management of UNITAID subawards including reviewing invoices and cash requests.

  • BA in accounting or finance; MBA/MS in Finance highly preferred;

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience with financial management, accounting and/or contract regulations;

  • Experience with accounting software, databases and spreadsheets;

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking capabilities;

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment, and strong analytical/problem solving capabilities;

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills;

  • Work experience in a developing country is a strong advantage;

  • Previous experience in managing major donor budgets is a strong advantage.
