PCI is strengthening its engagement in the area of gender equity and women’s empowerment. PCI believes that Gender Equity is vital to ensuring our programs have a positive, sustainable impact on the vulnerable populations we serve. For the Spring 2015 semester, we are recruiting a passionate and self-motivated Gender Equity Intern to assist with our expanding gender portfolio, including women’s empowerment, prevention of GBV, human trafficking, and male engagement. Reporting to and working closely with the Gender Technical Advisor and Program Coordinator for RMNCH/HIV/Gender, the Gender Equity Intern will be responsible for the following:
DUTIES & KEY TASKS:
- Conduct literature reviews and background research related to PCI’s gender integration areas of interest, including women’s empowerment, GBV prevention, human trafficking, and male engagement, to further technical programming, support proposal development, and expand PCI’s visibility in gender equity work.
- Provide logistical, administrative and technical support to PCI’s Gender Equity Commission
- Support gender integration efforts with PCI’s other technical units, including Humanitarian Assistance, Food, Nutrition and Livelihoods Security, HIV, RMNCH, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Local Capacity Strengthening.
- Working closely with PCI’s Gender Equity focal points, develop an inaugural Gender Equity Commission Newsletter
- Represent PCI in relevant external events and fora
- Additional tasks and special projects can be tailored to best suit the intern’s interest as well as address immediate needs of the organization.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Applicant must be a current student and able to either receive academic credit or provide an official letter from the school stating that the internship contributes to the intern’s education
- Graduate student studying international development, gender studies, or a related field.
SPECIAL SKILLS PREFERRED:
- A passion for the mission and values of PCI as well as gender, social inclusion, and protection issues.
- Previous experience with gender research or programming.
- International experience, preferably in countries/regions of PCI work.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as an integral part of a team.
- Strong research skills, including experience conducting academic research using search engines as well as literature databases.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with other programs a plus.
SCHEDULE:
We are looking for dedicated individuals willing to commit to approximately a 3 month internship of 15-20 hours per week during business hours. This internship is an unpaid position located at PCI – Washington, DC.
