Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Patient and Surgical Care
- Assists the surgeon in the operating room
Procedure Preparation and Follow up
- Makes sure all appropriate surgical instruments are ready for the surgeon
- Ensures proper sterilization techniques (OSHA standard ) are used for instrument trays
- Keeps supply room neat and well stocked
- Coordinates the maintenance scheduling/testing of the autoclaved other surgical equipment used in the operating room
- Appropriately follows OR schedules; ensures the surgeon arrives in the operating room on time
- Ensures surgeon has any “special” equipment, packaged to take to outside operating facilities.
- Prepares the operating facility and cleans the room after surgery
- Disposes of contaminated and disposable items, per OSHA Guidelines for Biohazards waste
- Completes paperwork when submitting pathologic specimens, and notifies lab that a specimen needs to be picked up; verifies patient insurance for the appropriate lab
Other
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations
- Arranges for all biohazards waste pick-up
- Oversees equipment maintenance
- Maintains patient confidentiality by following the HIPPAA Compliance Plan established by the practice; releases PHI in accordance white practice’s HIPPA Compliance Plan, attends regular HIPAA training, maintains data security by refusing to share computer and other passwords, and reports all identified and suspected HIPAA violations to the Privacy Officer
- Maintains the coding compliance standards set by the practice; understands the practice’s Coding Compliance Plan, attends annual trying, and reports all identified and suspected coding compliance violations to the Practice Administrator
- Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions
- Attends annual CPR, OSHA and CLIA training programs
- Attends all regular meetings
- Performs all other tasks and projects assigned but the Medical Director, Surgeons or OR Manager
