United States of America: Research Program Manager


General Description


The International Vaccine Access Center (IVAC) in the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking a Research Program Manager to assist with a new project evaluating the utility and feasibility of using serological data to monitor and guide immunization programs in low income countries. The Research Program Manager will work closely with the Principal Investigators at IVAC and partners in India and Zambiato coordinate daily project activities, including supporting study design and implementation, drafting standard operating procedures and study documents, managing IRB approvals, supporting training and management of field staff and laboratory operations at field sites, ensuring data quality, data analysis, liaising with collaborators, coordinating communication, and preparing reports for donors and key stakeholders. The candidate will travel to the field sites in India and Zambia. The candidate must be flexible and adaptable, able to effectively multi-task, self-motivated and independent, and possess professional judgment and discretion.

Examples of specific essential duties and responsibilities include:


Overall project management including monitoring study progress, liaising with field and laboratory teams, and coordinating with the principal investigators to manage urgent and long-term needs of the study.


Overall coordination of study team communications including convening regular conference calls, organizing a technical advisory group, and liaising with the international team of collaborators.


Conduct situation analyses, background reviews and systematic reviews on serological surveillance for vaccine preventable diseases.


Duties may include supervision of 1 – 2 students.


Support development of study protocols, SOPs and analysis plans. Liaise between field staff, JHSPH investigators and other partners during enrollment and data analysis stages.


Visit field sites in India and Zambia to identify partners, set up protocols, monitor progress, assess quality and compliance, and support field and laboratory activities. Support the field teams to conduct sensitization and outreach efforts with local communities.


Monitor data quality. Data analysis and support in preparing results and manuscripts. Prepare annual reports for funder and updates for global study teams. Interact with the larger IVAC team on progress toward study goals.

Qualifications


Minimum of Master’s degree in international health, epidemiology or related field.


Five years related experience. Demonstrated supervisory or lead responsibilities. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula


Willingness to travel to field site (1-4 weeks at a time).


Superb written and verbal communications skills.


Demonstrated skills and experience in project management and working with a team.


Experience working in India is a plus.


Demonstrated experience in data analysis and interpretation of scientific literature (preferably related to biomarkers, vaccines or vaccine – preventable diseases). Experience with statistical software packages (e.g. Stata, R, SAS) is preferred.


Demonstrated ability to work independently and to set and meet goals on time. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.


Other valuable experience includes: database management, clinical/research laboratory experience, familiarity with Adobe Illustrator/Creative Suite.


JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
