Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Program Manager the YES Program Group Leader is responsible for the overall leadership, planning and implementation of an evidence-based after-school curriculum that empowers youth to make positive changes in their communities and to work with adults who support their efforts. Leaders will work closely with at-risk middle school youth from low income communities.
Major Duties:
- Plan and facilitate (2) 90 minute after school sessions weekly; based on program implementation guide.
- Collaborate with and direct assistant group leaders.
- Complete required documentation.
- Participate in training and staff development activities.
- Able to collaborate well with staff and volunteers.
- Plan and organize YES sessions in advance.
- Must possess a genuine interest in helping students succeed.
- Able to use creativity in curriculum delivery.
- Ensure sessions are consistent with YES goals, principles, and core concepts.
- Support participants and maintain a balance between structure and flexibility.
- Foster an environment of youth leadership and community engagement. Able to acquire familiarity with community resources.
- Ensure a safe and consistent environment for youth to interact.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for the recruitment and retention of participants
- Informs parents and participants, through phone calls, emails, or text messages, about upcoming sessions and any absences.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of college or experience working with at-risk youth
- Ability to lead and participate in group recreation activities
- Experience in developing group lesson plans or integrated learning packages.
- Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based and/or youth development perspective
- Must pass background check
Note: Selected candidates will have to attend two MANDATORY training sessions that will be hosted on December 17- 18, 2015
Job Type: Contract
Salary: $20.00 /hour
