“Fortis” or the “Corporation”) had its beginnings with the formation of the St. John’s Electric Company in 1885. That was only a few years after Thomas Edison introduced the first commercial use of electricity for lighting. The St. John’s Electric Company would eventually evolve into Newfoundland Power Inc. (“Newfoundland Power”), the first wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis. The Corporation was established as the parent company of Newfoundland Power on December 29, 1987.
We are currently seeking for an Accounting Administrative Assistant in our new outlets in the USA.
The accounting assistant is responsible for providing financial and administrative assistance in order to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial records and administrative operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform most all aspects of the accounts payable function by: matching purchase orders to invoices; prepare batches of invoices for data entry – enter the invoices into the accounting software into the correct general ledger and profit center; identify errors or discrepancies and resolve before processing; research and resolve any outstanding balances on accounts, including telephone, mail, or email communication with vendors; help prepare vendor checks;
- Assist with the opening and sorting of business office mail; log all checks that are received
- Post daily payments to the appropriate accounts receivable; file and tally daily deposits
- Help with the collection of outstanding accounts receivables
- Billing – record sales invoices; mail and/or email invoices to customers
- Record general journal entries/transactions when approved by Accounting Specialist and/or CFO
- Act as back up to other departmental positions
- Front desk customer service when needed
- Back-up payroll processing when needed
- Review credit card statements for approved expenditures; collection of credit card receipts
- All other finance/accounting related functions as instructed by the Accounting Specialist and/or CFO
Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and maintaining general ledgers
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information
- Ability to maintain confidentiality concerning financial information
