Taxpayer Compliance Officer I - Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission - Roma, TX

Performs routine duties as a taxpayer compliance officer at the Commission’s ports of entry stations. Responsible for insuring compliance with state liquor laws as applied to the importation of alcoholic beverages by individuals. Work involves the assessment and collection of the liquor tax and confiscation of beverages in excess of legal amounts or importation by persons under legal age or intoxicated persons. Work involves collection of state cigarette excise tax on imported cigarettes and administration of regulations of the cigarette import quotas. Occasionally works alone with little or no supervision.

Examples of Duties:


Insures compliance with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code and Texas Tax General Annotated Code pertaining to importation and possession of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes for personal use.
Collects taxes for importing alcoholic beverages and cigarettes into the state.
Accepts payment, affixes stamps on alcoholic beverages and cigarettes, and makes change as appropriate.
Secures cash box at all times: responsible and liable for all excise tax/administrative equipment issued to him/her.
Responsible and liable for all monetary change funds and monetary collections.
Maintains records on issued excise tax stamps and merchandise confiscated.
Prepares accurate daily reports of collections and confiscations.
Confiscates and destroys alcoholic beverages and cigarettes according to agency policies and law.
Travels to unmanned bridges to perform spot checks as required.
Interprets laws, rules, policies, and procedures and applies them in work situations.
Performs related duties as assigned.


General Qualification Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications


Graduation from standard senior high school or equivalent. Courses in accounting, bookkeeping, criminal justice or business administration preferred.
Twelve (12) months work experience in contact with the public, performing selling or collecting activity. This includes performing cash transactions and record keeping or accounting. Thirty (30) semester hours of college credit may be substituted for experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have bilingual speaking skills (English/Spanish).
Duties require mobility inside and outside of work area including bending and lifting/moving a minimum of 30 pounds.

Must be willing to wear a uniform while on-duty. Any visible tattoos must be covered.
Must be willing to complete department or agency on and off-site training to enhance job-related skills.
Must be willing to work all bridges assigned to this port.
May work in adverse weather conditions.

Must hold a valid driver’s license with liability insurance.

Must be able to drive to all assigned locations.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission reserves the right to adjust compensation based upon legislative mandates in regards to TABC’s and/or an employee’s contribution to the Employees Retirement System.

The Commission will conduct a criminal history check with the Texas Department of Public Safety in accordance with applicable standards on all finalists for this position.
An eligibility list will be established from which future vacancies will be filled for this location.
