Typical Duties:
Receive shipments of supplies, materials and equipment for stock; compare shipping invoices with quantities received and ordered; check items received for damage and take appropriate steps for their return or credit; repackage supplies received in large volumes into smaller packages or containers; prepare space and store materials received; fill orders requested and arrange for delivery; pack requested material for delivery and deliver supplies to other locations as needed; issue stock as requisitioned; assist in maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies; replenish stock on shelves; prepare lists of supplies to order; may use part books and catalogues and contact vendors; may prepare and assemble parts and accessories as needed from stock on hand; assist in conducting periodic physical inventories; keep storeroom in a clean and orderly condition.
Employment Standards:
Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade andsix months of experience in a stock/storeroom or warehouse, storing, shipping and receiving supplies, materials, and/or mail, and keeping a variety of records, such as inventory.
Knowledge o f : Methods and procedures of storeroom stocking sufficient to maintain an orderly receipt, storage, distribution of and accounting for supplies; bookkeeping, pricing, invoice and record keeping procedures, including inventory control; basic principles of maintaining and taking inventories; math sufficient to calculate percentages, decimals and fractions.
Skill/Ability to: Keep accurate records of stock transactions; verify and enter data for a variety of lists, logs, and reports; coordinate orders and meet supply needs of user departments and/or divisions; code, sort, post, and check a variety of materials; read and comprehend technical information; perform basic clerical functions, including the maintenance of files, records, and related reports; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with suppliers and users; work independently with minimal supervision; recognize and maintain confidentiality of information and materials in compliance with department regulations; maintain storage facilities in clean and orderly condition; operate a hand or motorized forklift, and office and storeroom equipment; take a physical inventory; receive and store supplies and files; receive, sort, process and package mail for delivery; lift, move or carry materials weighing 35 pounds.
Additional Information:
Conditions of Employment: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license. Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
