Conveyor Person $32.15 per hour (entry-level) - Gen Tech Industries - Chicago, IL

The employee operates, inspects, and maintains a materials conveyor system. The employee performs cleanup around conveyor systems, plant towers, and normally traveled site locations. These tasks would include shoveling, use of water hose, operating support equipment, and other activities as directed.

General Description/Representative Duties:
The average employee works 8 to 12 hours per day, 5 to 6 days per week.


Due to the nature of worked performed; the physical requirements of the job may vary significantly from day to day depending on each day’s assignment.


Performs any combination of following tasks in and about surface mine, pit, quarry, or mill, using hand tools:


The employee operates, inspects, and maintains a materials handling system conveyor system. The employee checks fluid levels and the condition of the conveyor motors at the beginning of each shift.

Starts-up the conveyor system and shuts it down, if a problem occurs.

Cleans and lubricate the conveyor system throughout the shift to prevent breakdowns.

The employee cleans and performs minor routine adjustments or repairs, such as replacing defective rollers, using hand tools, solvent, and rags.

Cleans tools, equipment, materials, and work areas. Keeps working areas clean by shoveling muck, sand gravel or rock aside or onto conveyors. The employee shovels and sweeps spilled material from the conveyor system areas, and other areas around the yard, including stairways, walkways, corridors, and areas underneath the conveyor.

The employee controls the quality of the product by visually inspecting the material being conveyed, ensuring that it is free of oversized and foreign material, such as large rocks, wood, broken asphalt and concrete, and any other materials which can cause damage to the processing plant, i.e. metal.

Verifies amount of aggregate in storage bins by visual inspection.

Activities/Tasks:
Performing physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as in climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also require considerable use of the arms and legs, such as in the physical handling of materials.

Using one’s own hands and arms in handling, installing, forming, positioning, and moving materials, or in manipulating things. Inspecting or diagnosing equipment, structures, or materials to identify the causes of errors or other problems or defects.

Carries or hand-trucks supplies to work stations.

Loads and unloads items from machines, conveyors, and conveyance.

Lifts raw materials manually.

Employees are task trained on the job.
