IRAP is seeking a Communications Manager. The Communications Manager will work at IRAP’s headquarters in New York City as part of IRAP’s growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for individuals interested in refugees, human rights, and/or refugee, immigration, and international law to make a difference in the lives of those at-risk. The Communications Manager will:
- Coordinate and develop IRAP’s media and communications strategy in support of IRAP’s policy efforts.
- Field and track all incoming press inquiries.
- Develop contacts with print, radio, television and digital media.
- Manage IRAP’s social media accounts and website.
- Direct and produce IRAP’s quarterly newsletter and manage outreach to external stakeholders in conjunction with IRAP’s development and legal teams.
- Maintain mailing lists and seek to increase readership/engagement.
- Initiate and lead special communications and PR projects (e.g., social media campaigns, public awareness campaigns, collaborative projects with IRAP’s corporate partners).
- Direct and produce IRAP’s Report to Supporters and other public materials, including fundraising appeals, in conjunction with IRAP’s development team.
- Liaise and manage relationships with communications teams at partner organizations.
- Solicit editorials and blog posts from the IRAP community, and pitch content.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- 2+ years of experience as part of a media and communications team
- Interest in refugee law and/or processing, human rights, and international law
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Must be a self-starter, motivated, and a good team player with a strong sense of humor
- Must be highly organized, flexible, able to multi-task, manage a high volume workload, and have excellent time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills, and the ability to understand and handle sensitive and confidential information
- Fluency in oral and written English
- Microsoft suite
- Must have professional experience with Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, and MailChimp
- Design skills preferred, but not required
