CALL TAKER - The City of Columbia, South Carolina - Columbia, SC





Term: Regular Full-Time Pay: $26,464 – $33,080/ANNUAL Nature of Work: The purpose of this position is to receive incoming non-emergency and emergency calls; to dispatch calls for law enforcement, fire, EMS and other personnel and services in an accurate, timely and professional manner; to maintain accurate and complete dispatch records, and to perform related work as required. Qualifications: Graduation from high school, vocational school, or GED with six (6) months work experience in a heavy volume call center, or in an emergency communications environment for law enforcement, fire, or EMS agency operating computer terminals and handling non-emergency or emergency calls for services. Special Requirements: TYPING TEST REQUIRED. Selected applicant must have the ability to type. Must possess and maintain a valid SC Class “D” Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record. Must have knowledge of personal computer equipment with skill in the use of Microsoft Office preferred, utilizing Outlook, word processing and spreadsheet software programs. Must possess or be able to obtain NCIC Certification within six (6) months from date of hire or promotion, and/or S.C. Law Enforcement E-911 Certification from the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy within one (1) year from date of hire or promotion. May be required to complete additional training and certifications as deemed necessary by supervisor. Will be required to work additional hours during emergencies as needed. As emergency personnel must have available transportation and must be assessable by phone all hours and may be called-in to work additional hours as may be needed and during emergencies. Shift work to include holidays, nights and weekends. Note: Rotating 12-hour shift assignments to include holidays, nights and weekends.
