MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training Requirement for Forester 1, 2 and 3: Associate degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters.

You will not be considered for employment until this verification has been received. To avoid delays in processing your application, it is important that you provide this verification as soon as possible. .
Forester 1,2 and 3 License Requirements: Persons holding a current license as a registered professional forester or forestry technician may be preferred in appointment. If you do not have a license and are selected for appointment you will be notified by the hiring agency that you must apply for and begin the formal licensing process PRIOR to appointment. The licensing board will provide verification that your application is in process. After you have completed the full-time equivalent work experience, you will be required to then complete the licensing process.

Other Requirements for Forester 1,2 and 3: Must be licensed or eligible to be licensed to operate a motor vehicle in West Virginia.
Failure to pass the required physical examination within the first 6 months of employment will result in termination of employment. Failure to pass a subsequent examination may result in reassignment.
Positions must meet the qualifications for and become a Special Conservation Officer at the earliest opportunity following employment and maintain this commission throughout the period of employment in the position. This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the State Forester.
Experience Requirement for Forester 1: None required
Experience Requirement for Forester 2: One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the field of forestry.
Experience Requirement for Forester 3: Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in the field of forestry.
