Job Title: Accountant I/A/R /Cashier/Recept ionist

SUMMARY:
This position performs cashiering functions, telephone switchboard operations, public assistance with information, and accounting duties. Provides for a smooth flow of receipting revenues and balancing of revenues daily. Provides the public with clear and concise directions and information. Provide top level services to the public and to City employees. To continually gain knowledge which will in turn provide for more efficient and cost saving services to the public and our employees.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Answer all incoming telephone calls directed to the main City Hall number via the City switchboard telephone system. Also includes answering calls that are switched back to the main number if unanswered, or busy, at the department or individual level. To perform this function efficiently, a thorough knowledge of City personnel and departmental responsibilities is required. In addition, since the switchboard is not the sole responsibility, this individual must be adept at multitasking.


Reconcile and prepare West Valley City bank deposits. Verify cash and checks totals with the daily cash receipts report. Bank deposits are prepared for the main Treasury cash receipt system, as well as for: the Administrative Law Division, Animal Shelter, Harman Home, and miscellaneous other deposits as required (i.e. forfeited funds from the Police Department). Verify the daily reconciliation report for the Fitness Center, Westridge and Stonebridge golf courses.


Perform cashiering functions and is responsible for ensuring that the correct amount is received and deposited into the correct account.


Provide accurate information for all walk-in traffic and incoming calls to the City.

Maintain a file of useful information for citizen and other interested persons for reference purposes. Provides clear and concise directions to inquiring individuals.


Prepare accounts payable checks for mailing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Entry level accounting with a working knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles. Working knowledge of basic accounting and office procedures. Possess good public relations skills. Good working knowledge of computers and is able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned. Ideal candidate would be able to communicate (read, write & verbal) in both English and Spanish.


EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduate from a standard senior high school AND 2 years full time paid employment in related field, or associate degree in related field.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

English (speaking, reading and writing with good grammar skills)

Spanish (speaking) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job environment is generally indoor office setting. Occasional high-stress deadline periods may occur, as well as stress as a result of human behavior.

Overtime may be required on a seasonal basis, and in special situations.
