Definition

Under supervision, the Information Services Representative provides information and assistance to customers about transit services; processes personalized transit requests, distributes transit information material throughout the County and assists with public information programs.

Distinguishing Characteristics


This class differs from the class of Senior Information Representative in that the Senior Information Representative assumes lead responsibilities and provides immediate oversight and coordination of Information Services Representatives on an assigned shift.


Essential Job Functions:


Typical Tasks


  • Answers inquiries about local and regional transportation services, routes, schedules, stop locations and fares;

  • Uses street map directory, computer terminal, other transit information and other reference materials;

  • Takes and records telephoned Personalized Transit trip requests;

  • Operates computer terminal, keyboard equipment, sales terminal, digital cameras and other standard office equipment required to communicate with customers;

  • Takes, records and answers customers suggestions, requests and complaints;

  • Collates transit information materials;

  • Loads delivery vehicle, delivers and supplies transit information outlets throughout the county;

  • Operates light motor vehicles;

  • Assists with publicity and public information programs by distributing and gathering information;

  • May present VTA information to various groups;

  • Staffs satellite transit information reference centers;

  • Updates transit information reference materials;

  • May assist in job familiarization of other Information Services Representative personnel;

  • Keeps basic records of functions for which responsible;

  • Performs ticket/pass/merchandise sales transactions involving cash/credit payment;

  • Performs other related duties.


Minimum Qualifications:


Employment Standards


Training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and one (1) year experience in work with heavy public contact, which involved explaining services and taking and answering customer requests and complaints.


Type accurately at the net rate of 30 wpm.

Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and odd and unusual hours.
