JOB DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES :
This is moderately difficult and varied clerical work including the skilled operation of a personal computer. An employee in this class exercises some independent judgment in the performance of variable and frequently complex clerical tasks based on a knowledge of established precedents, policies, and departmental procedures. The variety and difficulty of work differs among positions allocated to this class, but where work is more repetitive, there is some lead worker responsibility and/or added responsibility for finality of action.
Until the more difficult phases of work are learned, the employee works under close supervision, but thereafter detailed instructions are received only on new assignments or when procedures change. Advice is normally available relative to unusual or difficult matters. The employee may act as a lead worker over one or more employees assisting on routine details.
EXAMPLES OF WORK : (Note: These examples are intended merely as illustrations of the various types of work performed)
Types letters, forms, reports, work orders, records, and other correspondence from rough draft or instructions.
Maintains purchasing and related records.
Keeps employee time records, requisitions supplies, and relieves superior of clerical detail work.
Answers telephone and personal inquiries, routes visitors and calls, and secures and gives out information.
Operates calculator, typewriter, copier, faxand other office machines.
Files correspondence and other material, maintains files in proper order, removes material from files on request.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures, and of business English and arithmetic.
Ability to maintain moderately complex clerical records and to prepare reports from such records.
Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and to carry assignments through to completion without close supervision.
Ability to make minor decisions in accordance with established policies, regulations, and ordinances.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the general public and to work harmoniously with other employees.
Skill in the operation of a personal computer, calculator, typewriter, and other standard office machines.
Skill in accurate statistical data entry and letter formatting.
Graduation from high school or its equivalent, including or supplemented by course in personal computing, typing, or commercial subjects.

1. Candidates who successfully complete this selection questionnaire and who are selected to advance to the next step in the hiring process will be scheduled to take a written exam on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.
2. The 20 highest scoring candidates obtaining a minimum of score of 80% or better on the written exam will also be scheduled to take timed computerized assessment tests which will rate proficiency in Microsoft Word 2010, Microsoft Excel 2010 , and other areas that are relevant to the Clerk III Position.
3. Candidates must score at least 80% on the written exam to be considered further.
4. Applicants selected to take the written test will be notified via email by 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016.
5. Applicants who are not scheduled for the written test will receive email notification they are no longer being considered by 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016.
