Responsibilities of Position
The employee in this position will perform manual and semi-skilled maintenance (including routine and preventative) of the City’s signs and street pavement markings along City owned streets, rights-of-ways, parking lots, and other municipal infrastructure. Employees may have direct contact with residents and property owners and are expected to deliver excellent citizen-customer service. The selected candidates must demonstrate the City’s organizational values of integrity, responsibility, respect, teamwork, and results in carrying out the job duties. Responsibilities will also include participating in the City’s snow & ice removal efforts, as well as responding to other emergencies that may require working 12-hour shifts at all hours of the day and night with little advance notice.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent or completion of trade school course; or any equivalent combination of experience and vocational training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
• Basic knowledge of infrastructure maintenance, construction tools and equipment, and repair work, specifically as it relates to street sign fabrication and installation.
• Basic knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other related regulatory guidance.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
• Possession of, or the ability to successfully obtain within 30 days of hire, a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement and without air brake restriction issued by the State of Illinois.
• Basic knowledge with computers, software applications, and mobile technology.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with sign design software.
Drug screening will be required. The starting salary is $21.4422 per hour, plus an excellent fringe benefits package. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, April 10, 2016.
