Summary of Position:
The Strategic Development Department attracts donations from private individuals, corporations, and foundations through targeted communications, fundraising appeals, events and one-on-one cultivation. The Department is in an exciting and challenging period of growth and is looking for an intern who is eager to learn how to raise revenue and transform conflict while doing so.
As a Strategic Development intern, you will provide research, administrative, and logistical support to the team’s activities. The intern will develop their communication, program development, administrative, and research skills, and play a key role in designing and implementing new fundraising initiatives.
The intern will report to the Strategic Development Program Associate. This internship will begin in May 2016.
Responsibilities:
Conduct research on fundraising prospects, including private and family foundations
Support in the research of cultivation and engagement tools to help grow the department’s outreach
Support event logistics and research, including managing registration lists and assisting in following up with attendees after an event
Help the Event Coordinator compile briefing books on donor trips
Help reorganize the alumni network and support the design of new outreach strategies
Maintain and update database records and ensure all information is up to date, especially ahead of seasonal fundraising appeals
Help design and implement a volunteer program and local Search chapters
Support the development of new materials, including volunteer and fundraising toolkits for supporters
Perform general administrative tasks as needed
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the Strategic Development intern may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Minimum Qualifications:
Current student or graduate with a degree in Non-Profit Management, Communications, International Relations, Conflict Studies, Political Science, or other related area;
Strong communication, editing, writing, and organization skills
Excellent research skills
Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Applications)
Excellent attention to detail
Passion for the cause of ending violence

Interest in fundraising and organizational development
Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing contexts
Experience with fundraising databases, including Salsa and Blackbaud
Experience with fundraising appeals and event planning
Positive attitude and willingness to represent Search at professional events
Salary: This is an unpaid internship.
