Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business or related field and four (4) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the examples of work.


Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business or related field and three (3) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the examples work.


A combination of education and experience equivalent to eight (8) years of experience in a similar position as listed in the examples of work.

Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.

One of the positions will have a high emphasis on supporting the Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) and the Olmsted County Social Services Department. While the other position will focus more on supporting the Olmsted County Public Health and Planning Departments.


Under the supervision of the Controller, performs the operation and maintenance of the financial records, accounts and accounting systems; coordinates preparation of financial information with the finance department.


Examples of Work:
Assists in the operational and day-to-day activities of accounting personnel to include, evaluation, assignments and training

Compiles and prepares budget for individual programs after consulting with program managers

Works with program managers regarding their expenditures and status of their individual budgets

Calculates and prepares required financial and statistical reports

Assists in developing new procedures and processes based on needs of unit and need for coordination with other departments

Prepares financial statements and related financial reports

Reviews requests for changes in budget line items and ensures funds are available for needed expenditures

Assists in preparing audit schedules and audits statements and accounts

Advises the Controller and CFO regarding fee systems and the adequacy of fees

Supervises fees collection area accounts receivable and payable staff

Recommends and authorizes hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, discharge, assignments, rewards or discipline of employees, direction of the work and adjustment of other employees’ grievances on behalf of the employer


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of the principles of budgeting

Knowledge of accounting theory and approved methods of handling a wide variety of problems of business management

Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting

Knowledge of data process procedures

Ability to effectively plan, organize and assign work

Ability to analyze work-flow problems and to design procedures

Ability to maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and with co-workers

Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing

Knowledge of supervisory principles
