MANAGER
FRIENDS OF POINT BETSIE LIGHTHOUSE, INC.
Position:
General Description – The Manager for the Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse, Inc. is an operational position that oversees all the daily functions of the activities at the Point Betsie Light Station and assists in planning and coordinating the Mission responsibilities of the Friends. These responsibilities include the historic preservation of the buildings and grounds, educating the public about Point Betsie Light Station, maritime history, and the ecology of the immediate area surrounding the Station. The Manager takes direction from and reports to the Board of Directors of the Friends of Point Betsie Lighthouse.
Hours: This is a full time seasonal position (May through October) with the possibility of off season hours (off season hours are not guaranteed) Must be available weekends. An employment contract will be required.
Specific Duties:
- Responsible for the operation of the daily activities at the Light Station when both opened and closed to the public. This includes:
- Opening and closing the facility
- Responsible for securing the facilities and being the contact with the security company for alarms
- Supervising and participating in the conducting of tour (docent) activities
- Managing and training other staff and volunteers
- Preparing the work schedule for staff and volunteers; validating time sheets from the staff
- Overseeing the operation of the Gift Shop, which include opening, closing, handling of receipts, providing for sufficient change, security of cash, cash register functioning, general supervision of staff. The Manager is not responsible for selection, procurement, display, or pricing of the merchandise. These functions are the exclusive purview of the Board of Directors’ gift shop chairman.
- Monitor check in/out of apartment and email accounts
Future Responsibilities:
- It is planned that the below responsibilities will be phased in, expanded and developed over an extended period. Initially, the priority will be management and participation in the daily activities on the Light Station.
- Supervise the general maintenance of the buildings and grounds to include lawn care, cleanliness and minor upkeep of the buildings, coordinating the schedule of janitorial and other contracted services
- Schedule and coordinate the rental activities of the apartment , weddings, and other outside use of the buildings and grounds
- Assist in fundraising activities , advertising, and other marketing strategies that attract the public to Point Betsie under the direction of the board
- Involvement in accounting responsibilities to include receipt and deposit of donations, acknowledgement to donors, purchase of equipment and supplies, incurring and payment of expenses, preparation and management of annual budgets
- Updating and maintenance of the membership data base to include current contributions.
Qualifications:
The Manager must demonstrate strong organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills. Excellent computer and accounting skills are also desired. The Manager will need to effectively interrelate with the public and serve as a positive public relations figure in the presentation and promotion of Point Betsie Light Station. A four year degree is desired. Developing a long term relationship with the organization is desired.
Manager’s Compensation
The pay rate range for the Manager will be from $17.50 to $22.50 per hour or a salary equivalent depending on experience.
