The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the sixth largest transportation system in the United States, with a vast network of fixed route services including bus, subway/elevated, trackless trolley, light rail, and commuter rail serving a 2,200 square mile service region.
SEPTA is seeking a Scheduler to be located in our Center City, Philadelphia Headquarters. The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years scheduling, paratransit or transportation experience.
Salary Range*: Minimum – $38K – $48K
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the preparation, analysis and daily revisions of ParaTransit vehicles operating schedules. Schedulers use specialized software to individually review, monitor, group and shift trip reservations for daily CCT Connect patron travel.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Proficiently uses RouteMatch, Reveal or similar transportation software program, including manual reference files, procedures, and databases to develop logical, coherent daily vehicle schedules (-tours-) for both City and Suburban paratransit service, while working from standing order ride files. Receives and incorporates customer ride requests into appropriate tours.
2. Reviews and analyzes the structure of tours for logical order, efficiency and productivity, to help assure conformity with ADA and SRP regulations.
3. Prepares, processes and reviews statistical reports to analyze and evaluate trip information.
4. Develops paratransit vehicle schedules in accordance with contractor’s union driver specifications.
5. Prepares and confirms Suburban and Inter-County requests and trips; coordinates Suburban and Inter-County service with carriers to maximize productive use of available resources.
6. Analyzes patterns of ridership and trip service initiated by CCT Reservations personnel to ensure validity of trip requests within daily fleet availability.
7. Interfaces, researches and coordinates with CCT operating sections, customers, agencies and third-party contractors for schedule adjustments using patience and sensitivity.
8. Performs backfill supervisory responsibilities as required.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Senior Scheduler or the CCT Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of three (3) years scheduling, paratransit or transportation experience required, which includes proven experience with scheduling software preferred.
- An equivalent combination of advanced education and experience (one year of post-high school education equating to two years of experience) may be considered.
- Highly analytical, problem-solving orientation is essential. Ability to rapidly assimilate large quantities of facts and figures in an accurate, methodical, detail-oriented manner while working under pressure of deadline remaining focused on task at hand.
- Flexible, adaptable, quick learner; able to work independently and as a team member. Enjoy performing routine tasks within a desk-bound environment.
- Patience and empathy in assisting seniors and persons with disabilities.
- Good organizational skills; reliable, responsible, professional outlook.
- Experience with RouteMatch, Reveal, Trapeze, Strategin and/or ACS (Dispatch) related transit software preferred.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Windows XP, Word and Excel required; a Windows XP-Basic Skills Test will be administered.
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of City of Philadelphia’s streets and traffic patterns, and major landmarks in Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery Counties; a Map Test will be administered.
- Knowledge of SEPTA basic regulatory provisions governing fixed-route, Suburban ADA and city SRP (Shared Ride Program) service area preferred
- Demonstrated ability to maintain work productivity levels as established by the department.
- Must be able to work varied shifts, holidays and weekends as required.
