Responsibilities:
Classifies vehicles by description in order to determine proper toll assessment.
Processes vehicles expeditiously by category and method of payment i.e. cash computerized charge cards and non-revenue, etc. in order to ensure proper revenue is collected.
Provide security for toll revenues collected in order to ensure accountability of all funds to be turned in to the Toll Station/Shift Leader.
Observe and receive reports on potential traffic hazards, road conditions, accidents, and unusual occurrences on the Turnpike System and report them to the Toll Station Supervisor and/or the public in order to ensure public safety.
Performs housekeeping duties in and around tollbooth and the toll station.
Relieves other toll attendants for break or lunch periods on occasion.
Retrieves vaults from the triple vault cabinets located in the tunnel or from the automatic coin machines located in the toll lanes on occasion.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
Education: Completion of high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent.
Experience: Six months’ experience in public contact work preferably involving the receiving of cash and change making or the equivalent.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: The job of collecting tolls and the operation of the toll collection equipment is designed for a person in a standing position. The majority of time during a shift is spent in a standing position. A stool is provided to give you an opportunity to sit occasionally so you can rest your legs and change your back posture. Frequent bending, stretching, gripping, reaching, and twisting, and the ability to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. occasionally is required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Depending on the location of the position, a NH operator’s license may be required.
Employees may be required to pay an agency/union fee.
