CPI seeks a motivated leader to increase its profile and oversee fundraising efforts to support our programs. The candidate will be responsible for sourcing and building a community of philanthropists and corporate donors. The candidate will be involved in all aspects of daily fund raising activities, including leveraging strong contacts with Board members and network of supporters. The candidate will also represent CPI in the philanthropy community on the west and east coast. This position will be based in San Francisco, California, United States of America.

Fundraising Strategy and Planning
• Work closely with the Board of Directors, CEO and other key staff to develop a fundraising plan to support the strategic direction of the organization. Primary focus the fundraising plan will be to increase general operating support (flexible/unrestricted funding) from an expanded individual, foundation and corporate donor base.
• Execute the fundraising plan, and monitor and evaluate fundraising activities to assess progress against goals.
• Oversee and refine donor cultivation and stewardship with a particular focus on major gift acquisition.
• Adapt and refine fundraising strategy and plan in collaboration with the CEO and Board of Directors.
• Submit regular reports to the CEO and Board of Directors tracking fundraising results against goals.
Organization of fundraising activities
• Lead prospect research, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation and corporate donors, with a primary focus on major gift acquisition.
• Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
• Oversee the successful rollout of CPI’s annual fundraising campaign, effectively managing campaign components to achieve fundraising goals.
• Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization.
• Oversee, maintain and refine CPI’s Salesforce CRM database to ensure accurate prospect records, gift management systems and informational reports. Optimize fundraising potential while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
• Oversee and maintain gift acknowledgment and recognition systems.
• Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts.
• Oversee grant seeking (with a particular focus on general operating support) including research, concept note and proposal writing, grant application submission and follow up. Work close with program and technical staff to ensure the development of high quality grant proposals.
• Coordinate with Marketing and Communications to develop effective materials to support fundraising activities.
Board and volunteer fundraising development
• Work with the Board of Directors to establish clear fundraising accountabilities for the Board members and evaluate performance.
• Provide CPI’s Board of Directors with the necessary tools and support to enable them to effectively engage with and cultivate their networks for fundraising purposes.
• Identify, recruit, cultivate and support volunteers to fundraise effectively for CPI.
Fundraising Budget Management
• Develop and gain approval for an annual income and expenditure budget for the development function.
• Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports and recommend changes as necessary.
Development Team Management
• Supervising, setting goals with and for, and reviewing the performance of development staff.
Other
• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintain accountability standards to donors and ensure compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
• Ensure establishment of and compliance with the organization’s own fundraising and philanthropic principles, policies and procedures.
• Represent CPI to donors, prospects, regulators, fundraising volunteers and other external parties.
• Other duties as required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
• Master’s degree in Communication or similar field.
• At least 5-10 years’ experience in fundraising.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a senior development role in a non-profit organization.
• Experienced in developing and executing strategic fundraising plans.
• Experienced in developing major gift programs including prospect research, identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, foundation and corporate donors.
• Experience developing fundraising partnerships with the medical/health, pharmaceutical, tech and finance sectors an advantage.
• Strong experience in refining and maintaining CRM databases for optimal fundraising impact. Specific experience with Salesforce an advantage.
• Experienced in working with marketing and communications teams to develop creative and impactful strategies and collateral for fundraising needs including print, web and mobile.
• Experienced in strategizing, designing and executing major fundraising campaigns.
• Experienced in planning and executing donor cultivation and fundraising events.
• Experienced in managing grant application processes including prospect research, concept note and proposal development (with technical teams), application submission and follow up.
• Knowledge of delivery of health services to underserved populations in developing contexts an advantage.
• Knowledge of Southeast Asia, and specifically Burma/Myanmar an advantage.
