Effective with the release of this position announcement, Winrock International will be recruiting for the position of Director, Private Sector Partnerships. The responsibilities, duties and qualifications for this position are described in the attached position description.

Private investment in developing countries vastly exceeds public investment each year, and the gap is expected to continue to grow. Achieving desirable economic development outcomes increasingly depends upon effective linkages between public, private and philanthropic initiatives. Winrock seeks a mission-driven, creative and entrepreneurial professional to develop and manage partnerships with corporations, foundations and public sector entities that improve livelihoods and human well-being, and preserve natural resources.


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Director of Private Sector Partnerships leads Winrock’s efforts to develop strategic partnerships with private companies, foundations, and public institutions for initiatives that meet mission-critical objectives for all parties. The successful candidate will have experience working in and with the private sector to advance social and environmental objectives. S/he will understand successful business models, key metrics and best practices, from many sectors, that support continuous improvements across value chains in productivity, energy use, environmental quality, livelihoods, social infrastructure, and human well-being.


As an integral member of the Business Development & External Affairs group, s/he will manage existing corporate and foundation relationships, as well as develop and support private sector partnerships that make sustainable impact, attract additional resources, and strengthen Winrock’s capacity to deliver impact into the future. This position is based in Arlington, VA and reports to the Vice President, Business Development & External Affairs.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


● Manage and develop Winrock’s portfolio of corporate and foundation relationships and initiatives


● Evaluate the effectiveness of existing partnerships and develop criteria, priorities and overall strategy for Private Sector partnerships


● Coordinate internal Winrock touch points with corporate and foundation relationships and ensure comprehensive relationship tracking


● Evaluate Winrock’s work with value chains in order to package an integrated offering valued by private companies with sustainability commitments


● Develop tools, metrics, and frameworks that capture Winrock’s diverse experience with U.S. and international value chains


● Conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of partnership program effectiveness


● Identify and disseminate best practices to foster continuous improvement and ensure maximum program efficiency


● Identify emerging business leadership and industry trends in social and environmental sustainability, impact investment, shared value, and cross-sector partnerships for global development


● Represent Winrock at events with partners, funders, fund managers, investors, policy makers, and other key stakeholders


● Position requires 25 – 35% domestic and international travel


QUALIFICATIONS AND BACKGROUND:


Education: Minimum advanced degree or equivalent in related area preferred


Experience:


● Minimum of 10 years relevant work experience and management of Private Sector partnerships


● Significant experience working in the private sector on social and/or environmental outcomes


● Relevant experience and knowledge of PPP-related international agencies in emerging markets and/or the U.S.


● Proven track record of mobilizing and managing resources for Private Sector partnership initiatives including leading outreach to existing and new clients


● Strong understanding of the metrics used to assess the social and environmental impacts that are critical to Winrock’s mission


● Established national and international networks engaged in development of sustainable, inclusive value chains


● Demonstrated international work experience and outstanding intercultural skills


● Successful track record of working in an entrepreneurial or high growth organization


● Deep experience in strategies for sustainable supply chain development and corporate social responsibility; knowledge of USAID and other development funder policies and priorities beneficial


Skills:


● Ability to manage competing priorities with a unique attention to detail in a fast paced environment


● Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and sensitively with a broad cross-section of internal staff and external donors and collaborators is essential


● Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills; ability to exercise sound judgment; demonstrated strong organizational skills, including management of multiple tasks and conflict resolution


● Strong coaching skills and demonstrated ability to organize and energize internal teams;


● Familiarity with analytical tools (i.e. greenhouse gas inventories, life cycle analysis) and metrics used for assessing the multiple components of value chain sustainability from health and safety to labor practices to soil and water quality to energy use to emissions to biodiversity


● Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate complex information in a user-friendly way, including outstanding skills in writing, editing and presenting to small and large audiences


● Experience with management of client relationship software such as Salesforce


● Fluency (written) in at least one non-English language preferred
