SUMMARY:
Counterpart International is currently seeking an intern for its 5-year, USAID funded, Afghan Civic Engagement Program (ACEP). This is a full time position based in Arlington, Virginia. This position will report to the Program Manager, Afghanistan. The initial period for the Internship is three months with the opportunity to extend.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The intern’s primary responsibility will be to:
• Provide logistical and administrative support to headquarters and field office teams;
• Assist with drafting processing invoices and cash advance requests;
• In light of learning USAID rules and regulations, Counterpart’s policies and procedures, an Intern will have an opportunity to prepare and review procurement packages, grant agreements, and audit reports;
• Provide logistical and administrative support to staff traveling abroad in accordance with USAID and Counterpart travel policies and procedures;
• Providing research support to headquarters and field office teams;
• Assists with event organization, including logistics planning and identifying venues/trainers;
• Uploading and organizing data, filling, and providing written report(s) on findings;
• Assist with identification of technical support and help with recruitment as needed;
• Assist with M&E support for the portfolio, including reviewing and providing feedback on reporting into the Knowledge Management Portal to ensure consistent, quality reporting of activities and results;
• Assist in researching, writing, editing, proofreading, and producing reports (e.g., one-pagers, factsheets, political context summaries, and desk reviews);
• Assist in writing, editing, proofreading and updating programmatic documentation (e.g., quarterly reports, annual work plans, trip reports, and past performance reviews);
• Liaise with and develop effective collaborative relationships with Counterpart field staff and HQ staff in the development of communications products and programmatic documentation;
• Represent Counterpart at external conferences focused on Afghanistan and other relevant issues are report back on findings; and Provide research support to ongoing program, including but not limited to identifying fundraising opportunities for the region and assisting with proposals as necessary;
• Other tasks as needed.
RequirementsQualified candidates for this internship will be able to work five (5) days a week (minimum 35 hours) and will have the following qualifications:
• Current graduate student having completed at least their first year, or a recently completed Undergraduate Degree in international affairs, international development, public policy or a related field; Solid writing, research and analytical skills and demonstrated experience writing/producing, editing, and proof-reading project assessments, reports, and communication products;
• Demonstrated proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel;
• Demonstrated ability to write under deadline pressure;
• Superb organizational skills and an ability to focus on details;
• Ability to work independently as well as proactively seek out information from diverse groups and collaborate to create new processes and resolve issues;
• Ability to think quickly and effectively to solve problems, handle multiple projects, determine priorities in dynamic professional setting;
• Excellent interpersonal skills; commitment to collaboration and strong team player;
• Prior work experience in/or study of international development;
• Strong communication, time-management, and organizational skills;
• Fluency in English with strong English writing and editing skills;
• Knowledge of Dari, Pashtu in preferred but not required.
