Key Responsibilities:
• Work jointly within the Microfinance (MF) and with Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to develop plans and data systems for CRS’ project portfolio;
• Identify, initiate, support, and as needed, oversee operations research and impact evaluations, with emphasis on how microfinance innovations, particularly savings groups, support and promote CRS’ Pathway to Prosperity model of recover, build and grow;
• Develop a learning agenda and identify evidence based promising practices, with potential for replication and scale;
• Support dissemination of CRS’s MF research work;
• Support and inform technical working groups;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed to Succeed:
• MSc/M.A. in agricultural economics, economics, sociology or finance (PhD in one of these areas preferred);
• Minimum three to five years field experience in microfinance-related research, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America;
• Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, with experience in financial diaries and/or a willingness to learn a plus;
• Fluency in English and proficiency in French and/or Spanish (French is preferred);
• Excellent computer skills, specifically in one or more database management and statistical analysis software;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Ability to support proposal development, particularly the development of the research agenda;
• Highly organized and attention to detail; ability to complete tasks in a timely manner;
• Responsive and able to draw from diverse resources available;
• Excellent teamwork abilities and interpersonal skills;
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 30-40% of work time.
